Chapter 30: Old Memories and Trust

Y/n POV

As the sun set, we made our way to the photography room, but we had to stay clear of the kindergarteners who were wandering the halls. Gus looked around the corner when a fire ball was thrown towards him as he dodged it. Some kindergarteners ran past us and didn't see us. "Ok, the coast is clear" Gus said to us as he gave Matt a thumbs up. Matt then drew a circle that opened a secret wall that revealed the photography room. "This is where me and Jerbo have been trying to come up with plans to make Hexside more livable" Matt explained as we entered the photography room. Willow gasped when she saw a small wall with photos from before all this and one was hers, it was Willow with her dad's on Hexmas when she was a kid. I saw Willow tear up and whisper something to herself as she wiped the tears away. Hunter took a seat on a wooden box and patted a spot next to him for me to sit with him. I could tell he was mad and upset about everything and I wished I could have done something to help him, but I couldn't.

"Plans to convert the gym into a common space? Scheduling for rotating guard shifts? Is that a dinner menu using veggies from the plant homeroom!? Mattholomule, you're actually a decent leader!" Gus said in shock as he read a list Matt made. "Did you ever have any doubt in your mind?" Matt said while he flips his bangs. "Yes, many, many doubts" Gus said as he looked Matt dead in the eyes with a serious look. "Alright, time to take a walk down memory lane" Luz said to Willow as she sat down, and Willow grabbed a pair of pliers. "Once I saw Philip- I mean, Belos used a glyph to teleport to the skull, but it may take some digging to find it" Luz said as she took off her hat, her mother looked worried as Luz explained what needed to happen. "Remember Luz, No schemes, No plots, No ruses, and definitely No shenanigans" Willow said to Luz which brought the memory from months ago of the last time we were in the photography room during school. "I'm gonna assume those are clean" Camila said as she watched as Willow started to pull out memories from Luz's mind. 

Sometime later as Willow pulled different memories out, she finally found the one. "I think we found it" Willow said as she pulled out the memory and showed it to Luz. "Wow, It's so clear!" Luz said, astonished. "We can use this to get to the skull!" Luz said as Hunter finally said something. "Finally, we can get moving again" Hunter said as he stood up. "Before we go, look what I found" Willow said as she stopped Hunter and handed him a photo of him and Flapjack back when he played Flyer Derby. "We're all gonna miss FlapJack but we know he loved you and Y/n the most" Gus explained. "And we just want to let you know we don't care who you're supposed to be, cause you're one of us now! Never forget that" Willow explained. Hunter held my hand while squeezing it and he looked like he was about to cry. "Hunter... are you okay?" Luz asked as she picked up her hat and put it back on. "I... don't know..." Hunter said as he looked down. Willow looked hurt and muttered something before apologizing to Hunter and walked out the room saying she needed some space. 

"I guess this is my fault too" Gus said when Willow was out of sight. "What? How?" Hunter said, confused. Gus then tells Hunter that he knew that he was a grimwalker since the Day of Unity and regrets not talking about it with Hunter sooner. "Gus, I-" Hunter tried to say but Gus cut him off. "It's okay, you guys stay here. I'll go find Willow" Gus said as he ran out of the room. "Wait Gus!" Hunter said as he ran after Gus, pulling me along. 'Why is Hunter so needy? He was never like this in the show?' I wondered as we ran down the halls. "Willow! Gus! Wait up, please!" Hunter screamed down the hallway. As we wandered down the hallway, a certain smell loomed in the air as both Hunter and I passed out but before we did, we saw Kikimora walk down from where we came from.

Soon, we woke up in the detention pit and we saw Gus passed out next to us. Hunter went over to wake him up as I took in our surroundings. "Hey Gus, Gus, Gus, you okay? Can you hear me? Gus, wake up!" Hunter said as he woke Gus up. "Huh? What? Ah, Boscha!" Gus said as he pushed Hunter off of him. I walked over the boys as Gus took in his surroundings. "It's okay, It's okay! It's just me and Y/n" Hunter said. "What happened? I remember smelling sleeping nettles?" Gus said as Hunter stood up. "Yeah, and I think I saw Kikimora, which is definitely a bad sign" Hunter said. "This way is all caved in so-" I said but Gus cut me off. "This way, yeah. I'm ready to kick some New Hexside butt" Gus said as he started to walk ahead. Hunter hugged himself and whispered FlapJack. "Everyone's on edge and I don't know what to say" Hunter says to me. "Hunter... It's going to be okay; we first have to find a way out of here and then find the others" I said as I gave him a side hug. Before we could start to follow Gus, we felt something wrap around our legs and we heard Gus yelp. "Gus!" We both said and ran the direction he walked to. As we got to Gus we saw him wrapped up in Willow's vines and Willow also wrapped in her own vines, her eyes glowing green. "Oh, Y/n and Hunter. I had a little run-in with Boscha and got stuck down here, Gus just surprised me!" Willow said. "What's going on?" Hunter asks and gets closer to Willow. "I've got it all under control" Willow says but fully cocoon Gus in her vines. Willow then starts to mumble something as she rips her vines off of herself and when Hunter tried to get closer, he also started to get wrapped in Willow's vines. "Willow, you got to calm down!" I said and started to pull off the vines that grew on Hunter but they wouldn't stop growing. Soon, they started to also wrap around me, and I started to pull them off myself. It was useless as Hunter and I were both cocooned in her vines.
