Madelyn's POV

"Hi, can I get two Caramel Lattes and a box of your donut mix?" I asked the girl behind the counter when it was my turn to order.

"Of course, coming right up." she replied as I pulled my card out to pay. "There you go." she continued and handed me my order.

"Thank you so much. Have a great day!" I told her and walked out of the coffee shop.

I decided I would walk to the triplets house because it was only 10 minutes away, so I put my airpods in and hit shuffle on my playlist. 'Having My Way' by Lil Skies started playing while I was waiting for the light to turn green.

One other song played while I was walking and 'Signs of Jealousy' was ending as I got to their house. I put my airpods back in their case and looked at my phone, seeing a text from Nick saying that he left the front door unlocked for me.

I walked inside and up the stairs. I was about to go straight to Nick's room but I saw Chris sitting in the living room, so I stopped to greet him.

"Hey Chris!" I said and smiled. He barely lifted his head to look at me, but I could hear him muttering a "hi".

"Is everything okay? Did something happen?" I asked him, genuinely wanting to know why he seemed so upset.

"No, and even if it did its none of your business anyway." he replied coldly, not even looking at me.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to know if something was wrong, because you seemed upset." I told him, hoping this would be just a misunderstanding.

"Oh my god Madelyn, can you just fuck off?" Chris said raising his voice and also his head to finally look at me. But his eyes were full of...hatred? No, that can't be the case.

"Wh-what?" I barely managed to get out before he interrupted me.

"Just stay the hell out of my way. Or is that too hard for you to understand?" he said, sarcasm and irony present in his tone. That's when I knew he was being serious. I looked at him, anger flashing in my eyes as well.

"Don't worry. I heard you loud and fucking clear!" I said, slightly raising my voice at the end of my statement.

I didn't waste any more seconds and walked upstairs to his brother's room. I knocked on his door, because no matter how great we got along, I still respect his privacy. When I heard him say that the door was open, I went in and walked to his side of the bed, giving him his coffee. I put mine on his nightstand next to the donuts and went to close the door.

"What's up? I could've sworn you seemed happier on the phone earlier." Nick asked me, noticing the change in my mood.

"Your fucking brother happened." I replied, taking my coffee and walking to the other side of his bed so I could get in.

"What do you mean? And which one?" he asked me, confused by what I told him.

"Chris. What the fuck is his problem? One day we get along and the next one he tells me to, and I quote, 'fuck off and stay out of his way'. What did I even do to him?" I started rambling, but truly just wanting to understand why he acted like that.

"Woah slow down, did he say that?" Nick tried to understand.

"Yeah. I was going to come up to your room but I saw him and I wanted to say hi. The next thing I know, he acts like a bitch, talking to me like I'm his fucking arch nemesis." I explained the situation to Nick.

"Okay, I got it. Let's just try and have a good time, ignore him. I'm gonna deal with him later, don't worry." he reassured me.

"Don't. I don't want to cause any problems between you guys. If he wants you act like an idiot, let him." I said, grabbing a donut out of the box.

"But you don't deserve that. As far as I know, you didn't do anything wrong." Nick said kind of offended.

"And that's why I'm not gonna stop hanging around you guys. Just because he suddenly hates me." I said with a scoff.

"Girl, you are so much better than me. If I was in your place I'd be downstairs arguing with him." Nick said, making me laugh. That's what I like about him. He always knows what to say to make me smile.

"Thank you! I really needed that laugh." I thanked him, getting closer to him so I could give him a hug.

"I noticed, but I hope you know that I'll always be here. I promise you." Nick said, hugging me tighter.

"Okay let's stop being all lovey dovey before I start crying and feeling emotional." I said, now making Nick burst out laughing.

We were watching Stranger Things when his door flew open and someone walked in. When I took a better look at the person, I realised it was Chris.

"Nick what are you going toni– oh, you're still here." he said, looking at me like I was a stranger.

"Yeah, she's still here. And to answer your question, I'm spending time with Madi tonight. Why?" Nick asked his brother.

"I wanted to hang out with you but it looks like I can't even spend time with my brother now." Chris said, throwing me another glance.

"Come hang with us." I said, still hoping he was just in a bad mood earlier.

"Nobody was talking to you. My god, do you ever shut the fuck up?" he said in a repulsive manner.

"Hey, you either calm the fuck down or get out of my room." Nick warned his brother, not appreciating the way he was speaking to me.

Chris just looked at Nick and slowly backed away from us, closing Nick's door on his way out of his room.

"The fuck did I do?" I asked quietly, not waiting for an answer from Nick. I was actually trying to figure out what did I do.

"Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. Looks like he's on his period or some shit." Nick said trying to lighten up the mood.

He put an arm around my shoulders, pulling me into him and showing me that he's got me. But that still didn't help the thoughts from rushing in my mind, asking over and over... why... Why does Chris hate me?
