The night before the interview, I could barely close my eyes. I tossed and turned, my mind racing as I visualized Janet her image so vivid, I could almost feel her warmth against me. I could smell her perfume lingering in the air, intoxicating and sweet. Beside me, Emily lay sound asleep, blissfully unaware of the turmoil churning inside me.
I felt a wave of guilt wash over me; here I was, in a loving relationship, yet all I could think about was another woman. Janet had stained my mind, an unwelcome visitor that refused to leave. I wanted to push her out, to focus on the soft rise and fall of Emily's breathing and the warmth of her body next to mine, but my thoughts kept drifting back to that magical night with Janet.
Every detail replayed in my mind, the softness of her skin, the way her laughter danced in the air, the undeniable chemistry that had sparked between us. It was intoxicating, yet it felt like a betrayal to the love I had with Emily. I needed to find a way to compartmentalize my feelings, to push aside the memories of Janet and focus on what lay ahead.
But as I lay there, the line between past and present blurred, leaving me feeling restless and conflicted. I just wanted to sleep, to escape the chaotic thoughts swirling in my head, but it was impossible. The weight of the upcoming interview loomed over me like a dark cloud, and I could only hope that I'd find a way to keep my composure when I finally faced Janet again.
Our interview was set at a Malibu beach house, and it felt almost majestic. The modern design, with its crisp white and beige tones, radiated elegance, while the large windows framed a breathtaking view of the ocean. Inside, the space was beautifully decorated, blending comfort and style effortlessly. I noticed vibrant paintings adorning the walls, lush plants adding a touch of life, and a stunning fireplace that promised warmth on cooler nights. Ancient African statues stood proudly around the room, telling stories of culture and heritage, further enriching the atmosphere.
At first, it was just the crew bustling around cameramen setting up their equipment, a makeup team ensuring I looked polished, and a sound technician carefully attaching my microphone. I could feel the nervous excitement bubbling within me, anticipation tingling at the back of my mind. I kept glancing around, trying to absorb the surroundings, but my heart raced with thoughts of what was about to unfold.
Despite the beauty of the setting, I hadn't seen Janet yet, which only heightened my nerves. I focused on my breathing, attempting to calm the whirlwind of emotions stirring inside me. The crew moved efficiently, adjusting lights and positioning cameras, but my mind kept drifting back to Janet and the weight of our shared history. Would she remember that night? Would the spark still linger in the air between us?
As I adjusted my hair in the mirror, I tried to push those thoughts aside, reminding myself of the professional setting we were in. This was my chance to shine, to showcase my skills in front of a legend. But as I stood there, the anticipation in the air grew thicker, and I couldn't shake the feeling that my heart was about to race into unknown territory.
I could hear her voice before I saw her, that iconic, soothing, unintentionally seductive tone that sent a shiver down my spine. I turned around, and there she was in the distance. She hadn't spotted me yet, but I watched as she played with her ear, striding confidently toward the crew.
"Good morning," she said, smiling as she approached.
My god, she had become even hotter. She was petite in stature but carried herself with a tall, commanding presence that demanded attention. Then our eyes met, and it felt like the world around us faded away. Those deep, soulful eyes pierced through every wall I had built, and in that moment, I felt myself falling in love all over again. All I could think about was how I wanted everyone to leave so we could recreate the night of passion that still lingered in my memory.
