Hiding The Darkness

Chapter 3

Lia hadn't told anyone when she would be home, so when she arrived it was to an empty house. Moving upstairs, she placed her bags in her bedroom and began to walk back downstairs. Thinking she heard Aunt Jenna, she entered the kitchen to find her aunt talking to Uncle John, and it didn't look fun. 

"Hey" She called out with a little wave, interrupting their argument.

"Emilia" "Lia" they both called out in surprise, Jenna rushed over to pull her into a hug.

"When did you get home? Why didn't you tell me you were coming back so soon?" Jenna asked.

Lia smiled, "I wanted to surprise you." Looking to John, "I didn't know you were back."

Jenna scoffed, "Neither did I." The hear voices coming from the porch, "I think Elena's back." She heads to the door, leaving Lia and John in the kitchen.

"What's going on?" Lia asked, eyes narrowed on John.

"Council business." He replied and she knew he meant vampires.

Jenna came back to tell her she was headed to bed, and they would talk more in the morning. Lia continued to talk quietly with John in the kitchen when Elena walked in and froze. John was talking to her about the adoption, Lia wondered when her twin had found out. She kept herself out of the conversation until Elena turned to her with a genuine smile on her face.

"When did you get home?" Elena asked.

"Uhm, not long ago. Is everything okay?" Lia asked, confused by how her twin was acting.

Elena moved closer and pulled her into a quick hug, "Of course! I've just missed my twin."

John flipped around at that and stares at the other person, "Hello Katherine." Before Lia could do anything, the Elena look alike flashed forward and took a knife to Johns fingers.

"Goodbye John" Katherine looked to Lia and said "Talk soon" before disappearing. 

Lia rushed to help John stop the bleeding, all while thinking, what the hell had been happening around here? They both jump when the real Elena enters. Lia ignored her and continued to apply pressure to John's bleeding hand.

Lia watched as the ambulance drove away and told Jenna she would be there shortly. She still hadn't seen any sight of her brother, so when Elena started to scream, she rushed upstairs. Jeremy had tried to kill himself after taking a vial of vampire blood. She only hugged him while Elena lectured him. Her siblings seemed to have gotten themselves into a mess and she had just entered the shitshow.

Once Jeremy was finally coherent enough to speak with her, Lia made sure he was okay before telling him about Uncle John. She would need to have a little chat with him when she got back, she knew he had missed her, but he seemed to be lying and keeping Elena's secrets. That wouldn't help them in the long run. She made sure to let him know to call her if he needed anything, but she needed to go check on Uncle John. 

The night only got worse when she exited her brothers' room and was slammed against the wall with a hand wrapped around her throat. "Katherine" was growled out.

Lia kneed the vampire in the balls and stepped back, rubbing her throat, "Fucking dick."

The vampire looked at her more closely, "Blue eyes" he then noticed Elena and rushed to her.

Lia glared at them, "Tell your boyfriend to keep his hands to himself or I'll make sure he doesn't have any." Turning, she started down the stairs, ignoring her twin. When she reached her car, she noticed Elena rushing out of the house. Lia ignored her as she got in and started it, sighing when her sister opened the passenger door.
