Teagan's Ancestry

It had been a few hours since we'd left the Balmera, I was filled with questions. Coran helped me do a blood test that showed I was in fact Altean, 50% Altean. One of my parents was Altean, fully Altean. As in somehow, one of my parents was part of a race that was thought of to only have two living members alive. I felt like my head was going to explode.

"I don't know how this is possible, unless some Alteans lived through Zarkons attack or survived in cryo-pods like Coran and I. But the first option doesn't seem plausible enough." Allura explained. Allura, Coran and I sat in the med bay. We'd decided to tell the paladins whatever we found later, I didn't want to be made into a spectacle.

"Teagan, do you know which one of your parents could be Altean." Coran asked. Both Allura and him had gotten very excited, even if they were trying to hide it.

"My mom probably, definitely not my dad, he doesn't wear make-up and he doesn't have a beard he could use to hide markings."

"Well, that might not be true, sacred Alteans, such as myself are able to shape shift. Usually the ability is passed down by blood, take my father and I for example. Either of your parents could be using this ability, Alteans and Humans already look so similar it would't take a lot of energy or concentration." Allura continued.

"No I still don't think it's him, out of any of my parents it would be my birth mother."

"Birth mother?" Coran asked.

"Yeah, she died not long after I was born. Sure she's my mother and she loved me but I've never known her." I informed them.

"But you talk about your family all the time, I've heard you talk about your mom before." Allura seemed curious.

"I do, technically she's my step-mom but she's been in my life for as long as I can remember, to me she's always been my mom even if we're not related by blood. Also, I've never met my birth moms parents but I've met my dads. In addition I've never seen a picture of her, my dad says I look a lot like her and that's all I've got to know what she looked like."

"Really no photographs?" Coran asked.

"Yep, even weirder since she was a garrison pilot who was known for saving her crew from dying. They got trapped in an asteroid field, she was able to maneuver them out of it, still no photos. Like she didn't want any proof of her existence, other than the people who actually met her."

Coran and Allura nodded sad, they might have wanted to see if they knew her, if our first theory was correct that was.

"Maybe she knew about Zarkon and was hiding, that would make more sense if she had been in a cryo-pod. If so that means you and I are distantly related!" Allura grabbed my hand cheerfully.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked.

"All sacred Alteans are related, that's why my family was chosen as royalty. Many of my distant family members were rulers of smaller kingdoms in Altea, my father was the ruler of Altea itself but it was a very large planet so different parts of our family ruled kingdoms over the planet. There were about a dozen of them, however my bloodline has always been the most powerful which is why we were put in charge over all of Altea and not just a small part. Some sacred Alteans could only shape shift, others could only do healing, and much more but my father and I are capable of multiple abilities." Allura gushed.

"Oh, that is a lot to take in." I grabbed my head, it was starting to hurt from all the information I'd learned within the last few minutes.

"Your markings seem to vanish after you're done using your abilities. My guess is you come from a family potent in quintessence healing, seeing as how you were able to heal the Balmera and Allura's energy." Coran twirled his mustache, I snorted.

"Well good thing you already asked me to be a medic." It seemed to perfect that the exact type of Altean magic correlated with what I'd been deemed.

"This is the reason the universe brought you with the other Paladins, it makes sense too. Seeing how you were the only one able to defeat the gladiator." Allura assured me. I guess it did make sense. I've always wanted to go to space, mostly to make maps and things but Alteans were explorers and diplomats so that checked out. Maybe it explained my dyslexia too, maybe Altean would be easier to learn. At least easier than English.

"Well I'm glad the universe brought me then. I'm happy to be a part of this team and I still want to learn how to use my magic or whatever it is I can do."

"Of course, Coran and I will be here to help teach you anything you want to know." They smiled at me. I felt my heart swell. A part of me had always wanted to know more about my birth mom, and I guess in a way I got my wish.
