Xian stood outside the orphanage, watching as the sun set behind the towering buildings of the city. He took a deep breath, feeling the cool evening breeze fill his lungs, and listened to the sounds of laughter drifting from inside. It had been a long day, but Xian felt content, knowing that his work here was important. He turned and stepped back inside, closing the door gently behind him.

As he entered the living room, he noticed Gael practicing piano, his fingers moving deftly across the keys. Alisha sat nearby, flipping through a book, her brow furrowed in concentration. Renzo leaned against the wall, eyeing Gael's performance critically, while Morgana watched intently, her eyes wide with admiration. Xing hovered on the periphery, her gaze soft and observant.

Xuan, Xian's sister, emerged from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel. "Dinner's almost ready," she announced. "Gael, you're going to wear yourself out playing piano all night." Gael paused, grinning sheepishly. "Just finishing up this piece, Auntie."

The front doorbell broke the spell of the evening. Xian rose from the armchair where he'd been sitting, reading aloud to Morgana, and made his way to the entrance hall. He opened the door, expecting perhaps a neighbor stopping by or maybe a delivery person. Instead, he found himself standing face-to-face with a tall, imposing figure dressed in a tailored suit. The stranger's piercing gaze seemed to bore into Xian's soul, making him feel uncomfortable and exposed.

"Can I help?" Xian asked, forcing a polite smile onto his lips. The stranger didn't immediately respond, his eyes lingering on Xian's face as though searching for something. Finally, he spoke. "Rafael. And you are...?" Xian replied, "I'm Xian." Rafael's eyes narrowed slightly, his expression unreadable. "We met briefly at the charity gala last week, didn't we?" Xian thought back, trying to recall faces from the event. "If we did, I'm afraid I don't remember," he admitted. Rafael smiled wryly. "No matter. I assure you our meeting today will leave a lasting impression." With that, Rafael stepped forward, his movements fluid and deliberate, entering the orphan home uninvited. Xian was taken aback by Rafael's boldness, but he tried not to show his discomfort.

"May I ask why you've come?" he inquired, gesturing politely toward the living room. Rafael strode confidently into the room, his eyes scanning the space until they landed on Gael, still seated at the piano. "This must be the famous Gael I've heard so much about," Rafael said, his voice low and smooth. "And the rest of the family?" Xian hesitated, unsure how much of their personal lives Rafael should know. "These are my adopted children," he explained. "Renzo, Morgana, Alisha, Gael, and Xing." Rafael nodded, his gaze lingering on each child. "An impressive collection of young minds. I bet they keep you busy." Xian forced another polite smile. "Indeed they do." Rafael turned back to Xian. "I think we need to talk, Xian. In private." Xian felt a shiver run through him as Rafael spoke his name.

There was something unsettling about the way Rafael said it, like he was sharing a secret. He led Rafael into the study, closing the door gently behind them. "Could you please explain the reason for your visit?" he asked once they were alone. Rafael took a seat in the armchair opposite Xian's desk, his eyes never leaving Xian's face. "I've come to discuss the future of this orphanage," he said. "Specifically, how my involvement could ensure its continued operation. Xian leaned back in his chair, his expression cautious. "I'm listening," he said. Rafael steepled his fingers, his eyes locked onto Xian's. "My proposal involves a significant investment in the orphanage's infrastructure, including renovations, new equipment, and additional staff. In exchange, I would require regular updates on the progress of the children and potentially, opportunities for collaboration on future projects." Xian studied Rafael's face, searching for any sign of deception.

"While I appreciate your offer," he said slowly, "I need more specifics about the types of projects you envision us working on together." Rafael leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "Given the diverse skillsets of your charges, the possibilities are endless. For instance, I imagine Renzo's analytical prowess could be leveraged in finance or business strategy. Meanwhile, Gael's artistic talent might be chanelled into marketing or design. The options are vast, limited only by our imagination." Xian shifted uncomfortably in his chair, aware of the weight of the decision before him. "It sounds like you have given this a lot of thought," he remarked. Rafael inclined his head slightly. "Indeed, I have. The question now is whether you are interested in exploring this further." Xian took a deep breath, trying to gauge the pros and cons of accepting Rafael's offer. On the one hand, the promise of resources and support was incredibly enticing. On the other hand, he couldn't shake the sense that Rafael's true motives remained unclear. "I appreciate you coming here today, Mr. Rafael," he said finally. "I will need some time to consider your proposal." Rafael nodded graciously. "Understood, Xian. When you are ready, I'll be here." With a final nod, Rafael exited the study, leaving Xian to ponder the implications of his offer.
Xian sat in silence for several moments, lost in thought.

Finally, he rose and walked over to the window, gazing out into the night sky. The stars twinkled, casting a serene glow over the urban landscape. Though the view was peaceful, Xian's thoughts were anything but. He knew that no matter what decision he made, the consequences would be far-reaching, affecting not only himself but also the children he cared for deeply. As he stood there, the weight of responsibility settling heavily upon him, he realized that he needed to consult with Xuan. Her insight and practicality would prove invaluable in helping him navigate this complex situation. He left the study and headed toward the living room, hoping to find her amidst the children's bedtime routine.
