The atmosphere in the orphanage was charged with tension as the children went about their routines, the weight of recent events pressing heavily on their hearts. Alisha’s defiance had stirred something deep within them all, a flicker of hope amidst the looming threat of Rafael. But that hope was about to be tested.

Late one evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the grounds, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of heavy footsteps and muffled voices approaching. The Sy siblings had decided it was time to strike back. A group of thugs, sent to intimidate and weaken Rafael’s grip on the orphanage, moved stealthily toward the entrance, their intentions clear.

Inside, Renzo was in the common room, immersed in his studies. The sound of raised voices outside sent a chill down his spine. He glanced at the other children, who were gathered in a circle playing cards. Alisha's earlier rebellion echoed in his mind, and he knew they had to protect what they had fought so hard to maintain.

“Everyone, stay close!” Renzo commanded, his voice steady but laced with urgency. The children looked up, sensing the gravity in his tone.

Suddenly, the front door burst open, and the thugs stormed in, their faces twisted in malice. “Where’s Xian?” one of them growled, scanning the room with a predatory glint in his eyes.

Renzo stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of his siblings. “You’ll have to go through me first,” he declared, his heart racing. He could feel the adrenaline surging through his veins, and with it, an instinctual desire to shield his family.

“Get out of the way, kid!” another thug shouted, moving to shove Renzo aside.

But Renzo was quicker. He dodged the attack and threw himself at the nearest thug, landing a well-aimed punch. The thug staggered back, surprised by the boy’s strength. “You think you can just come in here and threaten us?” Renzo shouted, determination flooding his voice. “We’re not afraid of you!”

The scuffle quickly escalated as the other thugs lunged at Renzo, and he fought valiantly, using everything he had learned from Xian. He ducked and weaved, his quick thinking allowing him to anticipate their moves, but the odds were against him. Just as he felt he might have the upper hand, one of the thugs landed a brutal blow to his side, knocking the wind out of him.

“Renzo!” Alisha and Xing screamed, their voice piercing through the chaos as both of them rushed to his side.

“Get back!” Renzo gasped, trying to push them away, but the thugs were relentless. They began to overwhelm him, their numbers too great for one boy to handle.

Just then, the commotion drew the attention of Xian, who burst into the common room, eyes wide with horror. “What’s happening?” he shouted, quickly assessing the situation. His heart dropped as he saw Renzo struggling against the thugs. Without hesitation, he sprang into action.

“Everyone, to the kitchen! Now!” Xian commanded, his voice brokering no argument. He could see the fear in their eyes but knew they had to get to safety. The children obeyed, scrambling toward the back of the orphanage, while Xian rushed to help Renzo.

“Stay down!” Xian shouted as he tackled one of the thugs from behind, sending him crashing to the floor. The chaos in the room escalated, but Xian’s protective instincts kicked in, and he fought with a fervor fueled by the love he held for his children.

Amid the melee, Renzo managed to get back on his feet, but the injury he sustained was taking its toll. He could feel the sharp pain radiating through his side, but he refused to give up. “I won’t let you hurt my family!” he yelled, gathering the last of his strength.

With Xian’s help, they began to turn the tide, but just as victory seemed within reach, a powerful blow sent Renzo sprawling to the floor. A sharp gasp escaped his lips as he landed hard, and he felt a searing pain radiate through his body. His vision blurred, but he fought to remain conscious.

“Renzo!” Xian cried, scrambling to his side. The sight of blood pooling beneath Renzo made his heart race. “Stay with me! You’re going to be okay!”

Before Xian could assess the severity of Renzo’s injuries, the remaining thugs realized they were outmatched. They retreated, scrambling out the front door, their bravado evaporating in the face of Xian’s fierce protection.

As the last thug disappeared into the night, Xian knelt beside Renzo, his heart racing. “Stay with me, Renzo. I’m calling for help!”

“I... I’m fine,” Renzo panted, his voice weak but defiant. “Just… don’t let them hurt the others.”

“Your safety comes first!” Xian urged, pressing his hand against the wound. “We need to get you medical attention.”

But just as Xian's concern reached its peak, Rafael arrived, his presence like a dark storm cloud. He assessed the chaos and immediately zeroed in on Xian and Renzo. “What happened here?” he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.

“Just a little surprise visit,” Xian replied, his tone clipped as he continued to tend to Renzo. “They were trying to intimidate us.”

Rafael’s expression hardened, and he knelt beside them, his fierce protectiveness ignited. “This was a mistake on their part,” he said, his voice filled with a cold, calculated rage. “I will make sure they regret it.”

Xian looked up, alarmed. “Rafael, please. We don’t need more violence.”

Rafael’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t understand. This is war now.” He turned his gaze to Renzo, whose breathing was becoming labored. “We will protect our own, by any means necessary.”

As Rafael’s ruthless determination settled in the room, Xian felt a chill run down his spine. The children had faced an attack, and while they had emerged physically intact, the emotional toll weighed heavily on them all.

Renzo groaned softly, struggling against the pain. “Papa… I’m okay. Just… keep them safe,” he whispered, his eyes fluttering closed.

Xian held Renzo’s hand tightly, his heart heavy with fear and determination. The safety of the orphanage and its children was at stake, and he knew that the battle against Rafael’s growing influence was only just beginning.
