The sun dipped low in the sky, casting an amber hue over the orphanage as the children settled into their evening routines. Laughter filled the air as they played, blissfully unaware of the storm brewing just beyond the gates. However, the atmosphere shifted suddenly when a sleek, black car pulled up outside, its engine humming ominously.

Madam Sally stepped out, her presence commanding attention with every step she took. Gael, who had just finished helping Morgana with her homework, felt a chill run down his spine at the sight of her. He had only heard stories about his biological mother—stories filled with anger and betrayal—but nothing prepared him for the reality of her fury.

Sally strode toward the entrance, her expression a mix of indignation and entitlement. She pushed open the door without knocking, her eyes scanning the orphanage until they locked onto Gael. “There you are!” she shouted, her voice echoing in the hallway. “How dare you choose this place over me? You belong with me, not here!”

The cheerful atmosphere of the orphanage came to an abrupt halt as the children exchanged confused glances. Gael felt a rush of emotions—fear, confusion, and a twinge of guilt. “Mama, I—”

“Don’t ‘Mama’ me!” she snapped, cutting him off. “You deserve a life of luxury, not this... this dilapidated building! Xian has brainwashed you into thinking this is where you belong. You were meant for more than this.”

Xian appeared from the kitchen, a dish towel in hand, concern etched on his face. “Sally, this isn’t the time or place for this kind of conversation,” he said gently, trying to deescalate the situation. “Gael is happy here. We care for him.”

Sally’s gaze turned icy as she fixed her eyes on Xian, her jealousy palpable. “You think you can just take my son away from me? You’re nothing but a charity case, playing house with these children! I’ve seen your struggles, Xian. You don’t belong in this role.”

Xian stood tall, though his heart raced. “I’ve given Gael a home, a family. I care for him in ways you never could. This isn’t just about wealth; it’s about love and security.”

“Love?” Sally laughed bitterly, a sharp, humorless sound. “What do you know of love? You’ve stolen my son and wrapped him in a false sense of security. You think you can provide what he deserves? You’re just a failed dream, and I won’t let you keep him.”

Gael felt the weight of the confrontation pressing down on him, the tension wrapping around him like a vice. “Mama, please... I don’t want to leave. I love it here. I love papa Xian!” His voice shook, the fear of losing his newfound family filling his chest.

Sally’s expression darkened. “You don’t know what you’re saying! You’re just a child, easily manipulated. You’ll regret this when you realize the truth.”

“Enough!” Xian’s voice was firm now, cutting through Sally’s venomous words. “If you truly care about Gael, you will respect his choice. He’s happy here, and he’s safe.”

“Safe?” Sally scoffed, stepping closer, her anger radiating off her in waves. “You think this place is safe? What happens when I expose your weaknesses, Xian? What happens when Rafael decides to finish what he started? You can’t protect him forever.”

The mention of Rafael sent a shiver down Gael’s spine. He had thought the threat from Rafael was already overwhelming, but now the idea that his mother might be an ally to such darkness sent his heart racing. “Mama, please don’t do this,” he pleaded, desperation creeping into his voice.

Sally ignored him, her focus solely on Xian. “You’ve made a powerful enemy, Xian. I won’t let you ruin my son’s life.” Her eyes glinted with a dangerous intensity, and Gael realized just how much she was willing to fight to regain control.

The children watched the scene unfold, fear etched on their faces. Xian’s protective instincts flared, and he stepped closer to Gael, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “You won’t harm Gael or any of the children. This is their home, and they deserve to feel safe.”

Sally’s lips curled into a sneer. “Home? This is nothing but a cage, and I will do whatever it takes to get my son back.”

As she turned to leave, Gael felt a sense of dread settle in his stomach. Her words hung heavy in the air, a chilling reminder of the lengths she would go to reclaim him. With the threats of both Rafael and Sally looming over the orphanage, Gael knew the safety of his family was now more precarious than ever.

“Papa,” he whispered, glancing up at Xian, fear and determination warring within him. “What do we do now?”

Xian knelt down, looking Gael directly in the eyes. “We fight for our family, Gael. Together. No matter what it takes.”

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the orphanage into shadows, Gael felt a flicker of hope amidst the uncertainty. He was not alone, and they would face whatever challenges came their way, side by side.
