Rafael returned to the orphanage, bringing with him a formal proposal outlining the terms of his investment. He met with Xian, presenting the offer in a way that made it clear he was not leaving until he received an answer.

"I know you've been struggling to keep the orphanage afloat," Rafael said, his voice firm but polite. "This proposal represents a mutually beneficial arrangement. My company will provide the necessary funds to ensure the orphanage remains operational, and in return, you will agree to cooperate with us on various projects and provide regular updates on the children's progress."

Xian felt a sense of unease as he accepted the proposal. The pages were filled with legal jargon and complex financial terminology, making it impossible for him to fully comprehend the implications of the agreement. "I need some time to review this thoroughly," Xian said, hoping to stall for time.

Rafael's expression remained neutral, but his eyes betrayed a hint of impatience. "Time is a luxury you don't have, Xian. The orphanage is on the brink of collapse, and every day counts. I expect an answer today." Xian raised an eyebrow, curious despite himself. "What type of commitment do you envision for the collaborative projects?" Rafael opened the folder, revealing the meticulously prepared proposal. "We would expect you to involve the children in the development of innovative solutions, leveraging their unique perspectives and skills to drive creative problem-solving.Xian ighed, pretending to misunderstand the full extent of Rafael's requirements.

"I think I follow. So, in essence, you're proposing a mentorship program where the children assist with brainstorming ideas for your company?" Rafael smiled, pleased with Xian's apparent willingness to cooperate. "Exactly. We believe the fresh insights of the children will prove invaluable in driving our company forward." Xian ighed again, affecting a thoughtful demeanor. "I must admit, the prospect of giving the children such valuable experience is intriguing. Can you provide any examples of the specific projects they would be involved in?" Rafael leaned forward, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm.

"Of course. Our company is currently developing a new line of eco-friendly products, and we envision involving the children in designing the packaging and branding. We also plan to establish a mentorship program, pairing each child with a member of our team to guide them through the product development process." Xian ighed once more, pretending to weigh his options carefully. "While I appreciate your proposal, I think I'll need some time to consider it further. I must ensure any collaborations align with the orphanage's values and goals." Rafael's smile never wavered.

"I completely understand, Xian. Please take all the time you need. I'm confident that upon careful consideration, you'll find our offer too enticing to refuse." With a nod, Rafael stood, tucked the folder under his arm, and departed, leaving Xian to ponder the proposal alone. Xian watched Rafael leave, feeling overwhelmed and anxious. He returned to the orphanage's daily tasks, trying to push aside his worries and focus on the children. But the weight of his concerns lingered, and he couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom.

Later that evening, as the children finished their homework and began to relax, Xian noticed the older children gathering in the common area. Renzo initiated a game of poker, and Gael joined in. Xian observed from afar, seeing Xing briefly glance up from her reading before returning to her book. Alisha sat nearby, sketching in her notebook.

As the game progressed, Renzo spoke up, addressing Xian indirectly. "I guess someone around here is going to have to start being better at managing our finances." Although the comment wasn't directed at him, Xian felt a pang of discomfort. He wondered how much the older children knew about the orphanage's financial struggles and whether they suspected anything about Rafael's proposal. "Poker can teach you a lot about managing money," Gael quipped, placing his bet. "Like when to fold 'em and when to hold 'em."The others chuckled, but Xian couldn't muster a smile. His mind remained consumed by the difficult decision.

Renzo dealt out the cards, his movements swift and precise. "Fold 'em or hold' em, it's all about strategy," he echoed Gael's remark, grinning mischievously. "And sometimes it's about bluffing." Alisha studied her cards intently, her pencil lying forgotten beside her sketchbook. Xing set aside her book, intrigued by the banter and the promise of a fun evening. "Can I join in?" she asked, her eyes lighting up. Renzo nodded, sliding a stack of chips toward her. "Welcome to the game, Xing." The teenagers focused on their cards, their laughter and chatter filling the room. Xian, however, remained distant, lost in his thoughts about Rafael's offer.

As the game intensified, Alisha made a bold move, betting a large number of chips. "I've got three jacks," she announced confidently. Renzo narrowed his eyes, assessing his odds. "Three eights," he countered, matching Alisha's bet. Gael folded, deciding to cut his losses. Xing, still learning the ropes, hesitated, then placed a cautious bet. The game hung in the balance, each player waiting for the others to reveal their hands. Finally, Alisha laid down her cards, exposing her trio of jacks. Renzo showed his three eights, and Xing revealed a pair of sevens and a nine. Alisha's confidence turned to dismay as she realized her hand was not enough to win. Renzo collected the chips, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. "Looks like I'm the champion this round." *End of the card game segment. Now continuing the rest of the chapter.* Xian watched the teenagers' lively interactions, his mind elsewhere. He had not yet decided how to respond to Rafael's proposal, weighing the potential benefits against the unknown costs. He excused himself, heading to his office to review the proposal once more.
