Like most investigations Ciel and Sebastian conduct, they start at the Scotland Yard headquarters, otherwise known as London's police station. Ciel, infamously known in the Underworld, is not very liked by the Scotland Yard. More specifically, he is not liked by Lord Arthur Randall, the police commissioner. If you recall, he had been present when you and Ciel had your first outing together. He is the older gentleman that loathes the Underworld, its occupants, and all of its affairs. You can even go as far as to say he hates them all. He believes wholeheartedly that they are evil. They are the darkest stains of Britain. But, if you got him angry enough, he'd also admit that he mostly dislikes Ciel because Ciel gets things done before him. Also, Ciel and his little butler would come into the police station as if they owned the place, take intel that the police had collected, and take all the credit!
That being said, our chapter begins with Ciel and his little butler coming into the police station as if they owned the place and taking the intel the police had collected. I would also say that they took all the credit, but they had not done that yet.
Fortunately for the two, Lord Randall was not there to catch them in the act. Actually, nobody had caught them in the act. They managed to make their way into the police station without getting caught by anyone.
That's not including Inspector Fred Abberline, who caught them on the third floor of the station taking the files of the children who had gone missing. However, Fred Abberline was hardly someone to be considered an issue. Though Ciel respected his strong sense of justice, a characteristic lacking in many nowadays, he was unfortunately a push-over. And so, as Fred Abberline stood by a not-at-all suspiciously wide open window and hectically asked just how on Earth they managed to make it to the third floor without being caught, Ciel and Sebastian left without batting an eye in his direction.
The two had no luck finding much information regarding the missing children at the station, so, there was only one place to go.
"At least they are being treated as missing children rather than murder victims," Sebastian pointed out. To Sebastian, if the children were still being referred to as missing, then that surely meant they must have still been alive.
"Yes, as far as polite society is concerned, but someone in the Underworld is likely to have disposed of them already."
Ciel was not so sure they were actually alive. The Scotland Yard was the police force in polite society. Of course they wouldn't know if someone from the Underworld knew anything about the children. It's the one place they won't look. If they could not get information from every possible source, they would never see the full picture.
Raising a brow, Sebastian asked, "Is it alright for me to assume we'll be paying him a visit?"
"I don't like it any more than you do, but one needs, musts, and all," Ciel sighed. Upon sitting down in the carriage, he used the top of his cane to knock on its ceiling, alerting the coachman that they were prepared to leave. "Let's be off."
Sebastian hummed in agreement.
"Quite. My lord, if it isn't trouble to ask, how will you approach them in regards to- how should I say- the apprentice's inclusion?"
He gave Sebastian a scornful expression and crossed his arms, leaving his cane to lean against the carriage's plush seat.
"I have one idea, but I'm not so sure how well it will go."
"Would you prefer it if I did the deed? If I recall correctly, the two of you did not leave on the most preferred terms."
The scornful look became more scornful.
"Though, he did not look upset that last time I saw him," Sebastian continued, "Actually, he looked quite content."
Ciel nearly scoffed, "Oh yes? And how exactly is it that you would know? We both saw him leave."
