"So then, do you agree?" Ciel queried, standing before the Undertaker, who held the Queen's letter in the air, peering at it with clear vision through his hair. His grin suggested to Ciel that this news was more of a ludicrous inconvenience.
However, the darkness behind the Undertaker's eyes, the pupils of his that had dilated, the green that glowed in an unbearable hatred, a hatred that could never be quelled nor soothed, a hatred that even you couldn't ever cure. . . His eyes which could not be seen by anyone, suggested a deep, unfathomable desire to cause the Queen an even more unfathomable amount of pain. For the Queen had already caused him pain, which has been to blame for those that he had lost and those that he is continuing to lose, and now you. And now, she wanted you. And what could the Undertaker, an Aristocrat of Evil, do, when he has sworn to servitude and loyalty towards the Queen, the Queen of which he hated and despised, the Queen who was his biggest bringer of pain. What could he do, but agree?
"Her majesty's word is absolute. . . "
"That is true," Ciel replied, quiet and serious.
The Undertaker sighed, "Absolute rubbish- but I suppose I can't decline! I have only two conditions; I shall be the one to tell my boy."
Ciel, choosing to ignore the insult, asked him, "And the second?"
The Undertaker lifted a finger to his lip, letting out a deep hum while in thought.
Ciel pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You don't even know what it is."
He chuckled at this and waved him off, "Of course I do, and here it is!"
Giving the earl a smile that made him feel uneasy, he surprised Ciel when he told him an earnest and innocent, "Take good care of him for me. He's strong, you know, but he can only understand so much. You mustn't forget, while he's a strange boy, he's only a boy, just as you. You're well aware that things like these aren't meant for boys as young as the two of you. He has already gone through so much, not that you would know anyway. And so, because of that, I ask you to be kind and care for him. I won't be there to do that, you're aware."
Ciel found himself feeling peeved at how the Undertaker mentioned you had 'gone through so much'.
He couldn't quite understand why he was upset at first, though. Was it pettiness? Did he feel jealous at how you had someone to worry about you, to worry about you while you took up the tasks of the Queen? Or was it, that he felt annoyed at the Undertaker's concern, because if Ciel was able to do this work, then you would be more than fine, and that made the Undertaker's concern pointless? Or perhaps, was it that Ciel believed that what you had gone through wasn't as bad as what he had gone through?
But then Ciel realized, he was once again annoyed at himself, because he would once again be hurting you by his own hand. He felt peeved because hearing that you had gone through 'so much', made him feel worse than he already did, and also because he was also bringing you along the same road he had tread just after going through so much himself. Not only that, but Ciel chose to take on this bothersome job as the Queen's guard dog. You did not. You were dragged into this entire situation because he mentioned you once.
Ciel did not want you to turn out like him, but realistically speaking, asking him to take care of you was asking for the moon. Ciel did not take care of people. He didn't even take care of himself. How was he supposed to shield you from the absolute horrors that you'd almost certainly encounter? Even more, how was the Undertaker so sure that Ciel wouldn't be the greatest horror you would encounter?
