Ciel and Sebastian looked at each other in deep concentration. No words were exchanged, but the two shared the same thought at the same moment. Their look only acknowledged to the other that they were, in fact, thinking the same thing. What were they thinking of? A risk. What was the risk? You.
Sebastian sent a subtle nod to his lord, causing Ciel to turn away and glance at you, who eagerly walked ahead of them.
They absolutely could not let you out of their sight. You, however, looked about ready to sprint into the circus and greet everyone.
So, Ciel quickly made his way ahead of you, and Sebastian snuck up next to you and grabbed a gentle hold of your shoulders. You jumped in surprise at the sudden touch. Oblivious to their small trap, you looked at Sebastian and smiled.
"Let us stick close together. We wouldn't want to lose you, now would we?"
You couldn't contain your excitement to enter the circus. You would have been a bit disappointed if Sebastian hadn't used such a friendly tone; You wanted to go out and enjoy yourself! If you were being forced into this whole ordeal, you hoped to at least have a bit of fun. However, Mister Sebastian was concerned for you! He didn't want you to get lost! With that thought in mind, you bobbed your head happily and obediently.
"Yes, Mister Sebastian!"
"Very good."
He rewarded you with a pat on the shoulder, much to your joy. Promptly, he released your shoulders. His hand lingered closely to your back, guiding you forward alongside him. He ignored the way you looked at him, that pure gaze you so often gave him whenever he gave you the tiniest bit of care.
You followed behind Ciel, standing closely besides Sebastian, as to avoid getting separated.
"What are we going to do first?" You excitedly asked Sebastian, lightly tugging on his coat to call for his attention.
"We'll head to the main tent immediately," Ciel answered sharply, not turning around to look at you and instead only marching forward. "By sight, this seems like an ordinary circus. There's bound to be some clue in the area with the most going on. It's the main attraction, anyway. If we don't arrive there at once, we'll lose any chance of obtaining seats."
"Main attraction?" You asked, peering at the back of Ciel's head.
"My lord is referring to the circus ring. It is where the main performances take place."
You dragged out a long ohhhh as your eyes began to wander around the rest of the circus, examining the humans awe. What a strange place this was. This grand place, shining with colorful lights and striking outfits. You noticed how different the circus workers' outfits were compared to those of the people attending. Their brightly colored pants and flashy shirts- some wearing no shirts at all- clashed with the plain clothes of the attendees. The circus, you had come to assume, was seen by humans as a place that was far from ordinary, far from the norms of their silly little society. Despite that, they appeared to enjoy it.
This place was like nothing you had ever seen before. It excited you. It made you wonder how that place up there didn't have anything quite as entertaining as this. A large part of you almost felt bad for them, but a small part of you felt giddy, smug even, about how you got to experience this and they didn't. They didn't deserve to. As soon as that thought crossed your mind, you felt an enormous amount of guilt. How very selfish of you, how very un-angel like. . .
You moved passed this thought quite quickly though as soon as you caught sight of what appeared to be apples covered in sweet caramel. A gasp got caught in your throat and you forced it back down out of discipline. You had to stay close to Mister Sebastian. You couldn't get distracted! You had to be good!
