Sansa
"I had heard you seemed to favor the Old Gods," the voice made Sansa jump out of her skin, she twisted around fast enough that her hair whipped into her face, as her eyes befell on prince Aemond's purple orbs "can't say I am surprised," he commented.
The air was crisp and the nocturnal sounds had started to fill the air, the sun had started setting, painting the air around them of a light purple and warm pink, the light of the torches adding their own charm.
Prince Aemond was completely clad in black, the high collar of his jerkin dragon-wing shaped and held together by clasps of silver, he had thrown over his jerkin and leather breeches also an overcoat of leather and he looked even taller with his hands clasped behind his back. Taller, and like shadow and starlight made flesh.
The light caught the scarred side of his face. Sansa observed, with a lump in her throat as he raised his hand to his eyepatch to remove it.
The sapphire nestled inside the empty orb caught the light around them, shining. It ought to horrify her, to make her fearful of him.
You can't even stand to look at me in the face, little bird.
I've seen much worse than you since then, she thought belatedly, much worse than him too.
She knew who he was. Who he would become.
Kinslayer.
No worse offense in the eyes of Gods and Men. He would lay to waste the Riverlands, her mother's homeland...
...and yet, when prince Aegon had put her in a difficult position he had been the one to get her out of it. He had come everyday during her recovery to her bedside to read and converse. He must've spoken with prince Aegon because the man had stopped demanding her attention all of sudden after the last time they had shared a supper together.
"There is peace here," Sansa told him. Aemond nodded, striding to her, his hands still behind his back, the eyepatch dangling from one of them.
"There is," he agreed "I come here often myself as well. Peace is required to pray, wouldn't you say?" he asked. Sansa wondered for a moment if his question was a genuine one, but she could not detect any kind of felony in his eye when she gazed into it, merely curiosity.
Intrigue .
"Aye," she said, feeling a warm wind brush at her cheeks and kiss at her lips "the world can be deafening," she murmured "this quiet helps praying" she commented, looking away from him now that he had reached her to look back at the Heart Tree, standing tall and proud, the real gem on the crown of the Godswood of the Red Keep.
"I'm sorry" his voice startled her once again from her thoughts and Sansa turned again to look at him questioningly "for what you've suffered," he said "I cannot erase it, and I have no power to avenge you, as fate has already done its job. But I am sorry it happened to you"
