Tale of Hyacinthus:
Clio's attachment to King Amyclas faded when her belly swelled with his child. When her mind was finally clear, the muse cursed Aphrodite. Despite their dalliance being caused by love magic, Clio was fond of King Amyclas; he was very handsome, clever, well-learned, and dutiful. Everything a muse could appreciate. When Aphrodite's curse struck him, Clio would note his passing with sorrow. Clio returned to Olympus, having had quite enough of Sparta. She did bid goodbye to her lover and was gracious as he wept at her feet, patting his thick dark curls and murmuring some consoling nonsense she had observed Apollo utter whenever he took leave of his besotted lovers. Eventually, King Amyclas remembered that he was indeed a king and thus must maintain his dignity. They said more dignified goodbyes, with Amyclas promising to raise yet another temple to Apollo with shrines for her, her sister muses, and their mother. Clio informed him of her pregnancy and promised to keep him updated on the resulting child. That almost made the Spartan king weep again, but thankfully he restrained himself. Clio mounted her chariot and allowed the blessed swans of Apollo to carry her back to Olympus, her rightful abode.
At Olympus, she was greeted by her muse sisters and her lord. Apollo's eyes immediately went to her midsection. Of course, he was the god of healing, among many other domains.
"Congratulations," He told her with a bright smile, but his eyes were worried.
Clio smiled back, patting her slightly swollen belly.
"The child's father?" Inquired Apollo.
"The King of Sparta, Amyclas," Clio informed him.
Apollo frowned, eyes unfocused as if seeing visions of the future.
"And her curse?" He hinted at what had happened mere seasons earlier.
"I don't know. I became unusually infatuated with him, but it has faded completely today. Now, I am not any more fond of him than I am of my previous lovers."
Clio had always made it a policy to be kind and generous toward her lovers unless they wronged her. However, she preferred to leave sentiment out of it.Apollo paused to ponder this new information.
"You might just be immune to love's agonies. My beloved twin and our chaste aunt are, after all. You have always been the most logical and rational of your sisters. Perhaps you are fortunate."
Clio had to ponder that. She fervently wished it was so.
"I have sworn no oaths of maidenhood."
Apollo had no answer for that.
"Let us not worry; it is unhealthy for your child anyway. When fate strikes King Amyclas, I will console you if needed."
Apollo eyed her belly again.
