Seungmin sits across the table, he shows no emotion, even though Jeongin has been staring at him for few minutes now, gulping his glass of water nervously and cussing at his own self for inviting Seungmin for coffee.
How stupid was that? Hour ago he was just sitting there, playing his favorite video game and suddenly, he felt lonely. He was spending his weekend alone, then he felt stupid for having someone he just kissed, but no balls to ask them out. So he called him spontaniously.
"Awkward silence.." Annie says with a smile and Seungmin's expression quickly changes from no emotion to frowning.
And yeah, apparently, Annie felt same as Jeongin, that's why she showed up few minutes ago, and they've been sitting in silence since.
Seungmin glares at her. "Allow me to show how pleasently surprised I am for how you're able to read that from a situation."
She takes it as a joke, laughing as she reaches for Jeongin's glass of water. "I mean, it's obvious."
Seungmin snaps, "it's also obvious that you're extra here, but I can't see you reading that from a situation."
Jeongin's jaw drops, raising his eyebrows. Some other time, maybe he would stand up for Annie, but right now, he actually, really wanted to be alone with Seungmin.
"Don't talk instead of Jeongin." She strictly says, "if he didn't want me here, he would say so."
"I thought you guys were pretty close." Seungmin starts with a smirk.
"We are." Annie remarks, glaring.
"Then, you should probably know that he would not upset you with that." Seungmin chuckles, "however, I really wouldn't mind telling you that we were planning to hang out as a date, so you should leave."
Annie frowns, but this time, she glances at Jeongin. Waiting for him to say something, anything that slightly hinted at wanting her to stay. But Jeongin avoids her stare, looking around the room as if his glare was following a fly around. Annie takes a deep breath.
"I won't let you have him, when I've wanted him for years." She declares strictly, but for Seungmin, it seems so pathetic that he almost laughs.
Jeongin shifts uncomfortably in his seat, feeling the tension between them spike. He knows Annie has crossed a line.
"Annie, I care about you," Jeongin says gently. "But this isn't fair. I don't know how many of hints I should send your way for you to finally understand, I don't like you. The feelings are one sided. I'm sorry if this hurts, but you need to leave."
Annie stares at him, her face a mix of disbelief and bitterness, but Jeongin holds her gaze. She scoffs, masking her disappointment with a sharp exhale, and grabs her bag.
"Fine," she mutters under her breath, standing up.
As the door swings shut behind her, Jeongin lets out a shaky breath, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Well... that was.." He trails off, struggling to find the right word.
"Embarrassing?" Seungmin offers dryly.
"Yeah, maybe a little." Jeongin abruptly stands up. "I'm going to make us coffee."
For a moment, there's a more comfortable silence around them as Jeongin prepares coffee and Seungmin just looks around the place, his eyes finally settling on Jeongin. For the first time, Jeongin looks rested.
Maybe because it's because the semester is over, his internship is done, and he finally got time for himself. He's more dressed up than usual too, wearing a casual sweater that hangs just around on his frame. The invitation for coffee was so spontaneous that Seungmin wondered if he gave it any thought at all.
