A Confusing Revelation
The next morning, the atmosphere in the house was light, filled with the sounds of laughter and the smell of fresh coffee. Y/N had woken up feeling surprisingly calm, the weight of yesterday’s emotions still lingering but in a way that felt more manageable. Billie and Finneas were sitting at the kitchen table, both absorbed in their phones, when Y/N shuffled in.
"Morning," Billie greeted with a warm smile, reaching out for Y/N’s hand as she came over. Y/N took it, smiling softly back at her before sitting down beside Billie.
“Morning,” Finneas echoed, looking up from his phone with a grin. “You sleep okay?”
Y/N nodded, though her mind was already buzzing with a strange idea that had popped into her head while she was still half-asleep. It was ridiculous, really—something so silly she almost didn’t want to say it out loud. But after all the tension, all the emotions that had been stirred up, she felt like they could use a little fun. And her ridiculous idea was starting to seem more and more like something she wanted to try.
Billie squeezed Y/N’s hand, noticing the contemplative look on her face. “What’s going on in that head of yours?”
Y/N bit her lip, debating for a second before deciding to just go for it. “Okay, so… I had this idea,” she began, glancing between Billie and Finneas. “What if we posted something that would, like, totally confuse people?”
Billie raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “What do you mean?”
“Well,” Y/N continued, a grin starting to form on her face. “What if we posted a picture of us… kissing… on Finneas’s Instagram?”
Finneas, who had been taking a sip of his coffee, nearly choked at the suggestion. “Wait, what?”
Y/N laughed, enjoying the reaction. “Yeah, like we post it, but then leave everything else—our relationship status, all our social media profiles—saying we’re single. We just… leave it there with no explanation.”
Billie’s eyes lit up, a mischievous grin spreading across her face as the idea sank in. “Oh my God, I love that,” she said, clearly getting on board with the idea. “People would lose their minds.”
Finneas blinked, looking between them both in disbelief. “You want to cause chaos for fun?”
“Exactly,” Y/N said with a playful smirk. “It’ll keep people guessing. And, let’s be real, it’ll be hilarious.”
Billie laughed, clearly delighted by the prospect. “I’m so down for this. It’s perfect.”
Finneas shook his head, though he was grinning. “You two are going to drive the internet crazy. You realize that, right?”
“That’s the point,” Y/N said, leaning back in her chair with a satisfied look. “They’ll be so confused. And we’ll just sit back and watch.”
Billie reached for her phone, already pulling up the camera app. “Okay, let’s do this.”
Y/N felt a rush of excitement as Billie positioned the phone, her heart racing a little at the idea of making their relationship public in such a chaotic way. But the idea of keeping it vague, of leaving everyone guessing, made it all the more fun. Billie leaned in, pressing her lips to Y/N’s in a soft, lingering kiss as Finneas rolled his eyes in good-natured exasperation.
“Just remember to tag me,” Finneas joked, holding up his phone to snap a picture of them.
After a few moments of messing with the camera angle and lighting, they got the perfect shot—Billie and Y/N kissing, framed perfectly with Finneas in the background pretending to be oblivious to the whole thing.
“Done,” Billie said triumphantly, uploading the picture to Finneas’s Instagram with a simple caption: “Just another day with these two.”
They all exchanged a glance, a shared sense of excitement hanging in the air as the post went live.
“Now we wait,” Y/N said with a grin, knowing that the confusion would soon follow.
It didn’t take long for the comments and likes to start rolling in. People were freaking out, some congratulating them, others questioning everything they thought they knew about Billie and Y/N’s relationship status. The contrast between the photo and their public profiles, which still said they were single, only added fuel to the fire.
Finneas laughed as he scrolled through the comments. “Oh man, people are losing it. This is even better than I thought.”
“Mission accomplished,” Billie said with a grin, leaning back and pulling Y/N closer to her.
Y/N smiled, feeling a warmth in her chest as Billie’s arm wrapped around her. The chaos they had caused online felt almost like a game, a way of making their relationship public on their own terms. But more than that, it was fun. It was them, being their weird, playful selves, and Y/N couldn’t help but feel a little lighter, a little more comfortable in this new chapter of her life.
“Think we should tell them?” Y/N asked, her voice teasing as she snuggled closer to Billie.
“Not yet,” Billie said, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “Let them guess for a while.”
Finneas laughed, shaking his head. “You two are trouble. I love it.”
As they all sat there, basking in the aftermath of their little social media stunt, Y/N felt a sense of belonging, of being part of something special. This—being with Billie and Finneas, causing chaos, laughing together—this was home. And for the first time in a long time, she felt like she could finally breathe.
