Bold Moves and Burgers

After their sweet moment with the note, the three of them sat around the living room, enjoying the peaceful vibe that had settled over the house. It was nearing dinner time, and they hadn’t exactly planned anything special.

“Alright, I don’t know about you two, but I’m in the mood for some burgers,” Finneas announced, his phone already in his hand, ready to order. “What do you guys think?”

Y/N smiled at the idea, her nerves from earlier slowly easing off. “Yeah, sounds good to me.”

Billie, who was still comfortably close to Y/N after their earlier exchange, nudged her gently with a playful smirk. “Maybe we can get you a burger with extra cheese, huh? You seem like a cheesy person.”

Y/N blushed at the little jab, recognizing Billie’s subtle teasing for what it was. “Cheesy? Maybe,” she murmured, trying not to laugh too much but letting herself enjoy the fun. “You’re bolder than usual tonight,” she added, meeting Billie’s eyes.

“Oh, trust me, I can be even bolder,” Billie shot back with a sly grin, her fingers brushing against Y/N’s hand for just a second longer than usual.

Finneas, watching this little exchange unfold, couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, this is getting good,” he teased, raising an eyebrow. “You two aren’t even hiding it anymore.”

Y/N and Billie both glanced at each other, a moment of playful awkwardness passing between them before Y/N looked down at her hands, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “I’m not hiding anything,” Y/N said softly, but there was something a bit bolder in her tone. It wasn’t loud or obvious, but it was there—like she was daring Billie to respond.

“Oh yeah?” Billie tilted her head, eyes sparkling with challenge as she leaned just a little closer to Y/N. “Maybe we both should stop hiding stuff then.”

Before Y/N could reply, Finneas cut in, placing his order for burgers. “Okay, okay. You two can save the dramatic love confessions for after dinner. I’m starving!” His voice was lighthearted, but he was clearly enjoying the dynamic between them. “Besides, nothing says ‘romance’ like greasy burgers.”

Y/N laughed, feeling more relaxed than she had all day. “You’re such a mood-killer, Finneas.”

“Hey, I’m just making sure no one forgets to eat,” he said with a grin, sliding his phone back into his pocket. “Food’s ordered, so now we wait.”

Billie turned her attention back to Y/N, her expression softening as she watched her. “You doing okay?” she asked, her voice quieter now, more private, like she only wanted Y/N to hear.

Y/N nodded, her heart fluttering a little at the gentle concern in Billie’s eyes. “Yeah. I’m good.” And she meant it. Being here with Billie and Finneas, feeling safe and cared for, was more than enough.

Finneas leaned back on the couch, his eyes sparkling with amusement. “You know, you two are cute when you’re all soft like this. I’ve never seen Billie like this with anyone.”

Billie shot her brother a look, though there was no real annoyance in her eyes. “Shut up, Finneas.”

Y/N couldn’t help but smile, feeling warmth spread through her. She wasn’t used to being openly affectionate, but with Billie, it felt right. Easy, even.

The teasing continued as they waited for the food to arrive, with Finneas throwing playful jabs at both of them. When the burgers finally showed up, they gathered around the kitchen counter to dig in.

“Y/N, are you sure you can handle a double cheeseburger?” Billie teased, bumping Y/N lightly with her hip.

“I can handle more than you think,” Y/N replied with a grin, her own attempt at being bold.

Billie’s eyes lit up, her smile widening. “I’ll hold you to that,” she said, her tone playful but carrying a hint of something deeper that made Y/N’s heart skip a beat.

As they ate, the conversation was light, full of laughter and the comfortable teasing that had become so natural between the three of them. Finneas, true to form, couldn’t resist poking fun at Y/N and Billie, but it was all in good spirit.

“You know,” Finneas said between bites, “watching you two flirt is like watching a really slow movie. Like, I know the ending, but the buildup is killing me.”

Y/N rolled her eyes, her face flushing as she took another bite of her burger. “I’m not flirting,” she mumbled, though it was clear to everyone, including herself, that she absolutely was.

“Sure, keep telling yourself that,” Finneas said with a wink. He then turned to Billie. “You’ve got her blushing, Bill. That’s gotta count for something.”

Billie just smirked, looking at Y/N with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. “I think we’re both doing a pretty good job at making each other blush.”

Y/N felt her heart race again, but this time she leaned into the feeling instead of shying away from it. She was bold in her own quiet way, and Billie was starting to pick up on that more and more.

After dinner, they all sprawled back onto the couch, the atmosphere even more relaxed than before. Billie rested her head on Y/N’s shoulder, and Y/N let herself lean into her, feeling the weight of the day’s emotions finally settle into something soft and comfortable.

Finneas, always the observer, watched them with a fond smile. “You know, if you two keep this up, I might start charging rent for all the romance happening in my house.”

Billie laughed, her arm wrapping around Y/N’s waist. “Shut up, Finneas.”

Y/N didn’t say anything, but she smiled, feeling safe and content in the warmth of Billie’s embrace. As the night wore on, it became easier to let herself be bold, even in the smallest ways.

And with Billie beside her, every little moment felt like a victory.
