Private Confessions

The night continued to be filled with laughter, silly songs, and playful banter as the three of them threw together the most ridiculous lyrics they could think of. Finneas strummed his guitar, his fingers moving lazily across the strings as he improvised a random melody to accompany the nonsense they were creating.

But while the light-hearted chaos filled the room, both Billie and Y/N found themselves sneaking glances at each other when they thought the other wasn’t looking. It was subtle—almost too subtle for anyone to notice—but Finneas, as usual, had a sense that there was more going on beneath the surface.

Billie, leaning against the couch, could feel her heart fluttering every time Y/N smiled. It was becoming harder for her to hide the way she felt, but she wasn’t sure if Y/N was ready to hear it. Y/N’s hints were still so small, so cautious, and Billie didn’t want to overwhelm her. But there was something about the quiet connection they had that made Billie feel like maybe—just maybe—Y/N wanted the same thing.

Feeling a little bold, Billie subtly pulled her phone out while Finneas was busy rambling on about the next line of their absurd song. She opened up a private text conversation with Finneas and started typing.

Billie:
I think I want to ask Y/N out... but I don’t want to mess things up. What do you think?

She hit send and tried to keep her face neutral as she glanced over at Finneas. He was still strumming his guitar, completely unaware of the message that had just arrived on his phone.

At the same time, Y/N, sitting quietly beside Billie, was also struggling with her own feelings. She had never been good at expressing her emotions, and the idea of telling Billie how she felt terrified her. But the way Billie made her feel—safe, understood, cared for—was something Y/N hadn’t experienced in a long time, maybe ever. She wanted to let Billie know, but the words just wouldn’t come.

Instead, Y/N reached for her own phone, opening a private message thread with Finneas, who had somehow become her confidant in all of this. She took a deep breath, her fingers hesitating over the keys before she finally typed out her message.

Y/N:
I think I like Billie... but I’m not good at this. What if she doesn’t feel the same way?

The message sent, and Y/N quickly shoved her phone back into her pocket, her heart racing as she tried to focus on the conversation between Billie and Finneas, who was still unaware of the two messages he had just received.

A few moments later, Finneas’s phone buzzed twice in quick succession. He paused mid-strum, setting his guitar down for a second as he pulled his phone out. His eyebrows shot up when he saw two unread messages—one from Billie and one from Y/N. Glancing between the two girls, who were both trying to act casual, he opened the messages.

Finneas’s eyes widened as he read Billie’s message first. She wanted to ask Y/N out. He stifled a grin, trying not to give anything away as he quickly opened Y/N’s message next. His grin grew wider as he read that Y/N liked Billie too but was worried about expressing it. Finneas had known something was brewing between them for a while, but seeing both of them so unsure and sweet about it made him want to laugh out loud.

Instead, he composed himself and decided to respond to both of them privately.

Finneas (to Billie):
You should go for it. She likes you too, but you need to go slow. Y/N’s not great with big gestures, you know that.

Finneas (to Y/N):
She likes you, trust me. She’s just waiting for the right moment to tell you. You’re both bad at this, lol.

He hit send and casually set his phone down, picking up the guitar again as if nothing had happened. But now, knowing what both Billie and Y/N were thinking, he found it hard not to smirk.

Y/N’s phone buzzed first, and she quickly glanced at the message, her heart leaping at Finneas’s response. Billie liked her too? She tried not to react outwardly, but her pulse was racing as she stuffed the phone back into her pocket. A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips, and for a brief moment, she felt a surge of hope. Maybe things wouldn’t be as complicated as she thought.

A moment later, Billie’s phone buzzed, and she read Finneas’s message, her heart swelling with excitement. Y/N liked her back. But Finneas was right—she needed to be patient. Y/N wasn’t the kind of person to make big, bold declarations of love, and Billie didn’t want to overwhelm her. Still, just knowing that the feelings were mutual made her want to jump out of her seat.

Finneas, watching both of them out of the corner of his eye, couldn’t help but chuckle. It was almost too perfect. He strummed a few more chords, then looked up at Billie and Y/N with a mischievous grin.

"So, what do you guys think?" Finneas asked, pretending like he was still talking about the song. "Ready to turn this nonsense into a chart-topping hit?"

Billie, trying to hide her excitement, nodded and laughed. "Oh, definitely. We’ll be famous for the stupidest song ever written."

Y/N gave a small smile, her heart still racing from the message exchange. She glanced at Billie, and for a brief second, their eyes met. There was something unspoken between them, something warm and soft, but Y/N quickly looked away, her shyness taking over.

Finneas, fully aware of what was happening, shook his head with a knowing smile. This was going to take some time, but he had no doubt that these two would figure it out. After all, he had a front-row seat to watching them fall for each other—slowly but surely.
