Chapter 1: The Morning News

The soft rays of the morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. You stirred awake to the sound of your phone buzzing insistently on the nightstand. With a sleepy hand, you reached for it and saw the caller ID flash: Yoon :). You groaned, declining the call, but that didn't stop him.

"Y/N, wake up!" Yoongi's voice filtered through the door, slightly muffled but still annoyingly energetic. You groaned again, pulling the blankets over your head, hoping to snatch a few more precious minutes of sleep.

But Yoongi wasn't having any of it. The door creaked open, and you heard the distinct sound of his feet padding across the floor. "Come on, get up! You need to see this."

Reluctantly, you cracked one eye open, squinting at the bright light pouring in from the hallway. "What's so important that you're barging into my room?" you mumbled, voice thick with sleep. You tried to stifle a yawn, hoping he'd just leave you alone.

Yoongi wasn't leaving anytime soon. He walked over and tossed your phone onto the bed beside you, the screen lighting up with the morning news. "Seriously, Y/N. Turn on the TV. You need to watch the news."

You sighed, rolling over to face him, still half-asleep. "What could be so important? It's not like the world's ending or something." You snorted, pulling yourself up into a sitting position, though reluctantly.

Yoongi crossed his arms, a frown etched onto his face. "Actually, it might be." His words had a serious edge that you weren't used to. "There's talk about a zombie outbreak in the city."

At that, your eyes shot open, fully awake now. "A zombie outbreak? What are you talking about?"

"Turn on the TV," he urged again, walking over to the small television in your room and flipping it on himself. He switched to the news channel, and there, flashing across the screen, were reports of strange attacks, people acting violent, biting each other—basically everything that spelled out the word zombie.

You rubbed your eyes, trying to focus. The news anchor looked animated, describing bizarre occurrences throughout the city. Attacks in the night, emergency services overwhelmed, strange behavior spreading like wildfire. The word outbreak flashed on the screen more times than you could count.

A laugh escaped your lips, a bit too loud, filling the room. "You're kidding me, right? Zombies? Come on, Yoongi, you can't seriously believe this." You shook your head, the absurdity of it all making you chuckle again. "It's probably just a publicity stunt. You know how the media is these days—always overhyping everything."

Yoongi, however, didn't look convinced. He stared at you, lips pressed into a thin line, his concern written all over his face.

"I know it sounds crazy, but people are getting hurt. You should take this seriously. It's not just some prank."

You waved him off, rolling your eyes. "Yeah, right. I'm sure by tomorrow, this will all blow over. They'll probably issue a statement saying it was some kind of prank or misinformation." You slid out of bed, stretching your arms overhead as the cool morning air hit your skin.

You moved about your room, going through your usual routine, still laughing under your breath at the absurdity of it all. Zombies, seriously?

Yoongi had always been the more paranoid of the two of you, always believing the weird conspiracy theories that popped up online. You thought for sure this was one of those moments.

But as you brushed your teeth and threw on some casual clothes, there was an odd feeling gnawing at the back of your mind. Something about Yoongi's reaction stuck with you.

He was rarely this serious. You couldn't shake the unease creeping up your spine, even if you kept telling yourself that zombies didn't exist outside of horror movies.

Yoongi lingered by the door, watching the broadcast, his brow furrowed in worry. "I don't know, Y/N," he said quietly.

"Maybe I'm overreacting, but something about this feels different. People are disappearing.       Hospitals are packed. We should be cautious."

You waved him off again, though a little less dismissively this time. "Look, it's fine. We'll be fine. You're just being your usual overcautious self. Trust me, nothing's going to happen."

He didn't look convinced, but he didn't press you further. You finished getting ready, still shaking your head at the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

Yet, as you grabbed your phone and bag, ready to head out for the day, you couldn't help but glance at the TV one last time. The images on the screen were unsettling, to say the least.

Little did you know, that laugh you had just had would soon turn into screams.
