There was tension between us for the rest of the trip. We arrived quickly at Pyra's than I had expected. Whatever the reason was for her presence it was setting me on edge.
"We're here," Jewel announced looking at Aida with caution.
She followed Skye to go change and left me alone with Jewel and the others.
"Souls set your head on straight," Patch said glaring at me.
"What are you talking about?"
"You are blind as a bat," Jewel spat out. "Alanna will do anything to be with you."
"I know," I spat out, "I'm not leaving her ever."
"Good." Jewel nodded and frisked off.
"What the hell was that all about?" I asked Patch.
"She's been hurt before Souls, she doesn't want it to happen to Aida."
That stopped me as I tried to think of when she may have fallen for someone.
"Just be careful," Patch reminded me and smiled when Alanna stepped back out in a dark red dress that shimmered like a lava waterfall.
"Wow."
She smiled and walked over to the front and threw her arms out as the wind blew. She looked like she was on fire.
"Behold Pyra's lair," Scoundrel joked as we entered.
"Pyra?" I called out before hearing my voice echo across the room.
A thought occurred to me that she never seemed to have guards around. Was she so powerful that no one dared to try and underestimate her power?
Aida grabbed my hand wordlessly as we made our way around the kingdom. After countless minutes of thoroughly searching we came up empty. Where was the Queen of Fire?
"Do you think she was kidnapped?" Jewel speculated as my thoughts turned to hers as well.
"Look there's a note," Alanna said picking it up.
"It's a map," I breathed and felt Alanna shiver beside me which only made me wrap my arm tighter around her.
"Where is it heading?"
Patch showed up and turned it over. There was a strand of Pyra's dress tacked to the map.
"This isn't good."
"What's the plan? Obviously we need to rescue Pyra,"
"If we contact Sedna she may be able to help. Saraphina could be next, we need to get to them first."
"Does Bones work for someone else?"
"Most likely," I replied and continued to hold her close to me.
"Where do we go now?"
"To the Zephyr." I walked with her back to the ship so we could hopefully save Saraphina in time.
"Does Pyra have a Ring?"
"Yea why?"
She examined her Ring carefully and looked at me with fear. "I think it may be affecting mine. If they're all connected somehow then we'll be able to find Pyra."
"So like a GPS?" I asked.
"Maybe it's just a hunch," she smiled trying to act all smart I couldn't help but kiss her.
"What was that for?" she asked breathlessly.
"You were being cute, sorry." I winked and yelled, "Yellowtail, Scoundrel. Man the sails you scalawags! We're burning daylight!"
"Aye Captain."
"Right away."
"Caleb," Alanna said holding me tightly and resting her hand against my cheek.
"Yes love?"
"I love you."
"I love you too Princess," and held her tight. This was how it was supposed to be.
