As they stepped out of the car, the bass from the party pulsed through the air, the sounds of laughter and music merging into a lively backdrop. King glanced at Oreo, a confident smirk on his face. "Ready for this?"
"Definitely," she replied, feeling the excitement of the night bubbling beneath the surface. They walked toward the entrance, where a few of their friends were already mingling.
"Yo! You guys made it!" Jay shouted, spotting them and waving them over.
"Of course! Wouldn't miss it," King replied, his voice carrying over the music.
"Nice outfits, by the way. Prom must've been good for you," Jay commented, his eyes flickering over their casual yet stylish looks.
"Thanks, man! It was awesome," Oreo said, glancing at King with a smile.
"Glad to hear it. Let's get some snacks
before we hit the dance floor," Jay suggested, leading them inside. As they navigated through the crowd, King leaned closer to Oreo, his voice barely audible over the music. "So, how do you feel about this party? It's pretty wild."
"I think it's great! Just a chill vibe, you know? It's nice to hang out without the stress of school," Oreo replied, feeling relaxed in the atmosphere.
"Totally agree. I like the break," he said, scanning the room. "It's good to just be ourselves for a bit."
They reached the drink table, where a variety of options lay in front of them. "What do you want?" King asked, holding up a cup.
"Surprise me!" Oreo replied, a playful grin on her face.
King poured her a drink, mixing a couple of different sodas and handing it to her. "Here you go, a special blend. Hope you like it."
Oreo took a sip and nodded, impressed. "Not bad, actually! You've got a talent for mixology." (It's not alcohol)
"Guess I'll add it to my resume," he joked, earning a chuckle from her.
They continued to chat and mingle with friends, taking in the lively atmosphere. After a while, Jay suggested they hit the dance floor. "Come on! Let's show them how it's done!"
"Let's go!" King said, grabbing Oreo's hand and leading her toward the crowd.
As they reached the dance area, the music shifted to an upbeat track, and the energy in the room intensified. King and Oreo found a spot in the middle, where they could dance without feeling crowded.
"Just feel it! Let loose!" King encouraged, swaying to the rhythm.
Oreo laughed, her worries fading as she let the music guide her movements. "You're right! This is awesome!"
They danced together, their movements synchronizing as they lost themselves in the beat. King caught Oreo's gaze, and they exchanged smiles, an unspoken understanding passing between them.
After a few songs, they took a break, stepping to the side to catch their breath.
"Dancing is exhausting!" Oreo said, leaning against the wall.
"Yeah, but it's fun! We should do this more often," King replied, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"Definitely! I love hanging out like this."
King hesitated for a moment, his gaze lingering on her. "Hey, I was thinking... about prom. It was cool, right?"
"Yeah, it was! I mean, being named prom king and queen was a huge surprise. I didn't expect that at all," Oreo said, a hint of disbelief still in her tone.
