As they settled into their seats in class, King pulled out a bag of chips and offered it to Oreo. "Want some? I've got enough here to feed an army."
Oreo grinned, reaching for a handful. "You know I can always count on you for snacks. This is the highlight of my day right now." She munched on a chip, savoring the crunch.
King smirked. "If only we could survive off snacks alone. I'd say we'd make it to the top of the class without breaking a sweat."
"True, but then we'd probably have to explain to the teachers why we haven't done any actual work. 'Sorry, we were too busy gaming and snacking,'" Oreo replied, rolling her eyes playfully.
"Sounds about right. Although, I could totally see us getting away with it if we had a good excuse. 'We were strategizing for our Future Leaders project,'" he said, a mock-serious expression on his face.
"Right! The project where we come up with the best ways to eat snacks and still maintain our grades. A groundbreaking concept," Oreo laughed. "I can already picture it: 'The Importance of Snack Time in Academic Achievement.'"
"Definitely a bestseller in the school library," King quipped, leaning back in his chair. "We might even get an award for it. Or at least a round of applause from our peers."
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," Oreo said, shaking her head. "But honestly, speaking of snacks, we should hit up that new café after school. I heard they have this amazing cookie sandwich."
"Cookie sandwich, you say?" King perked up, his eyes lighting up at the thought. "Count me in. You know I can't resist anything dessert-related."
"Who can?" Oreo replied, laughing. "It's like the ultimate comfort food. Just imagine it—warm cookies with ice cream in the middle."
"Okay, now you're making me hungry for real," King said, pretending to wipe drool from his mouth. "We definitely have to go."
Before they could continue their playful banter, the teacher walked in, interrupting their lighthearted conversation. "Alright, class! Settle down. Today we're going to be discussing some key concepts for our upcoming project."
Oreo leaned over to King, whispering, "So much for the snack revolution."
King chuckled softly. "At least we have the snacks to keep us entertained during this lecture."
As the teacher launched into the lesson, Oreo and King shared quick glances, exchanging small smiles that spoke volumes. She felt grateful for their connection, the way they could easily transition from playful banter to serious focus.
After a while, the teacher assigned them to work in pairs for the project. Oreo turned to King, excitement sparkling in her eyes. "I guess we're partners again. Ready to crush this?"
"Always," King replied confidently, his expression shifting to one of determination. "Let's show them what we've got."
The class continued, and they jotted down ideas, occasionally throwing in jokes to keep things light. When the bell rang, signaling the end of the period, Oreo couldn't help but feel a rush of energy.
"Alright, snack time!" King declared, standing up and stretching. "You ready to hit that café? I need to fuel up for the gaming marathon later."
Oreo smiled, grabbing her backpack. "Definitely! And I'm not leaving without that cookie sandwich. It's non-negotiable."
As they walked out of the classroom, they chatted about their plans for the day, the upcoming gaming session, and how they would tackle the project together. With each step, Oreo felt the weight of the outside world fade, replaced by the warmth of King's presence and the bond they were building.
