The cafeteria buzzed with chatter as Oreo sat with her friends, picking at her food. She felt a mix of anxiety and confusion as she tried to understand King's recent transformation. The whispers around her finally piqued her interest.
"Did you hear about King?" one of her friends said, eyes wide with disbelief. "He's the school president now!"
"What?" Oreo's head snapped up. "King? The same guy who was a total loner?"
"Yeah! He knocked out a bunch of bullies, and the principal just gave him a free pass. It's crazy!"
Oreo's heart raced. "I can't believe it. Is he really president?"
"Yup! And he made his sister the vice president," another friend chimed in. "They say he's even looking for a secretary."
"Wait, really? A secretary?" Oreo leaned in closer, curiosity overpowering her. "What's he planning to do?"
"I don't know. But people are saying he's going to make some big changes around here," her friend replied. "Like, actually stand up for everyone. It's wild."
Oreo's thoughts raced. She had seen glimpses of King's potential before, but this was a whole new level. "I wonder if he'd want me to be part of it."
"Why would he want you?" one of her friends asked, rolling her eyes.
"Because we used to be friends," Oreo shot back defensively. "Besides, he's probably looking for people he can trust."
"Good luck with that," her friend said sarcastically. "He's probably surrounded by those tough guys now."
"Maybe." Oreo's mind was already spinning with possibilities. What if she could reach out to him? "I'm going to talk to him."
"Now? You think he'll even notice you?"
"Watch me," she said, determination sparking in her chest as she stood up.
Across the hall, King was in a deep conversation with Raina, discussing plans for the upcoming school events.
"Raina, we need to make sure everyone feels included. I want you to help me brainstorm ideas," King said, leaning over the table.
"Absolutely! We could organize some workshops or even a talent show. It would bring everyone together," Raina replied excitedly.
Just then, Oreo approached them, hesitating for a moment before summoning her courage. "Hey, King. Can I talk to you?"
King looked up, surprise flickering across his face. "Oreo? What's up?"
"Uh, I heard about you being president," she said, trying to sound casual despite her racing heart. "That's... really cool."
"Thanks," King replied, crossing his arms. "I guess it is."
"I also heard you're looking for a secretary," Oreo added, her voice steadier than she felt.
King exchanged glances with Raina, who was watching intently. "Yeah, I am. What do you have in mind?"
"I... I think I could help you. I mean, if you'd consider me," Oreo said, hoping her voice didn't betray her nerves.
Raina perked up, a smile spreading across her face. "Oreo would be perfect! She knows everyone and has great ideas!"
King raised an eyebrow, weighing his options. "Really? You think so?"
"Definitely. I could help with organizing things, taking notes, whatever you need," Oreo said, trying to sound confident. "I know we haven't been close lately, but I'd really like to help."
