"Daddy, I'll be over with Aidan. I hope you don't mind." Maya's bright voice brought Michael back to reality while he mindlessly mixed his ice tea with a straw and as usually trailed away in his own thoughts. "I hope you don't mind." Maya said again once Michael looked up at her and smiled.

"It's okay, but I'll drive you home, okay?" He said, trying to look intimidating by pointing a finger at his daughter which ended up in a small giggle anyway.

"Of course." Maya said, not being able to hold back a big smile. She's obviously been in love with Aidan but she didn't want to admit it and Michael understood it perfectly. She was twelve, the age when you start liking boys in another way but you're still too proud to admit it especially to your Daddy. "Thank you, Daddy." She said before she leaned in and kissed Michael on the cheek.

"It's okay, have fun." He said simply, giving her a small shrug before he took the straw and placed it inbetween his teeth.

Maya walked off to the booth where Aidan and his older sister were sitting and Michael kept staring at them before he just couldn't help himself and started to think about how he got here where he is right now.

In fact, it all started with Samantha leaving him, almost ten years ago.

When both her and Calum escaped and for Michael's wonder never even asked about Maya what he just couldn't understand. Two parents that don't give a f.uck about their daughter, leave her alone with a man who she assumed all her life was her father. It was just something he could never accept as a normal reaction to anything nor he could relate to it. Damnit, Maya isn't even his child yet he could never do anything similar to what her real father and mother have done.

After he got over Samantha and realized that Molly can never be more but a friend to him, he got a better position in his job and even an office. Since him and Maya lived with his parents, there was no need to send her to kindergarten so there were no extra costs for them which resulted in Michael saving enough money to maintain a nice life in a big apartment for both him and Maya.

However, all the time he was too busy working and growing up the only person he cared about in his life so he never found a girlfriend. He often felt lonely, but in the end it was worth it. He was still in his thirties, he still hoped for the love of his life to walk into a cafe like the one he was in right now and meet him, they would talk and Michael would fall for her the same second. He'd marry her one day and everything would finally be okay, but until then he still kept on looking back and reminding himself of what would've happened if things went different way.

For example, he was almost positive that if he didn't meet Samantha, that he'd stay with Molly. He would've impregnated her and married her and there would be no problems that he apparently had to go through.

However, now it was the way it was and he couldn't change it and some part of Michael didn't want to change anything.

"Yeah, my dad will drive me home later." Maya nodded before she took a swig of her cola and smiled at Aidan.

"Mays." Aidan said simply, causing her to look to him and her smile to fade away since Aidan looked worried at her.

"Yeah?" She questioned once he wouldn't say anything.

"Your dad doesn't really look like ... Well, your dad." Aidan elaborated, giving her sister a glance before she nodded in agreement. This has been bothering him for a while now and he just thought it would be the best to put it out there since it was obvious. Maya was so tanned compared to her dad who was pale and had blonde hair and blue eyes and she was the complete opposite.

"I know." Maya said softly, giving the both of them a small shrug. "Dad never told me that but I know I am not his real daughter. I have there an idea whose daughter I coule be but that doesn't matter anymore."
