"Always victims of you and I. They must fly into the tail light. Under the truth, where everything's new for you." -New For You by Reeve Carney
I wasn't awake, I couldn't be. It was warm here, and there was music coming from far away. I opened my eyes and jumped as I surveyed my unfamiliar surroundings. I was in a room with white walls and windows that were covered partially by shades.
It took me a moment to remember the events of the night before and I snuggled deeper into Chris' pillow. My nose ached greatly; I didn't even dare to steal a look in the mirror.
I followed the sound down the stairs and into the open floor plan that made up the first story. I rounded the corner of the wall that divided the kitchen from the living room and found Chris with his back turned to me, a song playing from his iPod dock station.
There was a breakfast bar that the wall was connected to and I just stood and took in the calm vibe that the whole house reeked of. He was singing softly, moving and making something that smelled amazing.
I walked forward and watched as he moved. I giggled.
"What are you doing up?" I stopped and met his eyes. "Uh, I'm awake." He studied me for a moment and then retrieved a plate from the cabinet above his head.
"Eat, you need it." I smiled at the omelet that looked so yummy. In spite of myself, I dug in, not leaving a single morsel. As I finished, he turned and smiled.
"So do you think I'm creepy yet?" "Just a little bit, but you're a great cook so it makes up for it." He laughed, almost choking on his eggs. "Yeah this is the only thing I can make in the kitchen but i am a mean griller."
He finally regained himself. "Okay, you need to rest for a couple days, but your nose is looking better, I don't even see a whole lot of bruising there." I nodded and pulled my knees to my chest.
"After you rest, I'm taking you out to get some clothes."
"Wait what?" My foot slipped off of the chair and my knee slammed into the granite countertop.
"Shit, you okay? Anyway, you need clothes and I'm not letting you go back to your home to get your own."
"Yeah but I don't need new clothes-"
"What are you gonna do, live in my oversized sweat pants and band tees for the rest for your life?"
"I'm not protesting." I said playfully. "Oh well, I'm taking you and there's nothing you can do about it. Oh yeah and I called work, apparently your dad came by early this morning and quit your job and took your paycheck."
"How the hell was he allowed to do that?" I asked, literally falling out of the chair. Luckily I caught myself.
"I don't know but I told Mr. Frain that I would have you call him back, if you still wanted to work." I nodded and put a hand to my forehead.
Work was a way I stayed out of the house, now I never wanted to leave this one.
After a few days, I was slowly coming back to my normal self. Chris still insisted that I get some clothes and now I was riding with him towards Scranton. I pulled out the phone and logged into my old Facebook account that I hadn't interacted with since I had graduated. I scrolled through the measly newsfeed and then checked the messages.
Two from Ana (my friend whom was really into Motionless in White). They just asked how I had been but that was it. I scrolled through the others, none catching my attention until I saw his name. My heart rate quickened as I immediately pressed the sleep button on the phone.
"You okay?" I glanced over at Chris, whose brows were somewhat furrowed.
"Um, yeah, everything's fine."
"You sure?" he pushed as we took the nearest exit.
"Yes, I'm fine." I insisted, smiling. He smiled back and squeezed my knee gently. He parked in a parking garage that belonged to a huge mall and turned off the car.
"Wait, isn't everyone gonna recognize you?" I asked. "Nah, I don't have makeup on." he assured, getting out of the car.
"Those eyebrows though." I started.
"I'm not famous for my eyebrows...though they do get the ladies." I snorted as he took my hand. I followed in his wake, heart fluttering, but conscience burning.
By lunch time, Chris had gathered enough clothes to keep me in style until I died. I kept refusing, telling him that he couldn't pay for all of this, but every time he would press his fingers to my lips and the store clerks would go nuts in aw's and 'you two are so cute'. He pulled me into some restaurant and we sat down.
"Okay so this place has the best waffles in the whole world." he gushed as a waitress came over and welcomed us. "Hi, how are you guys?" she asked, her light blue hair pulled into a bun. Chris cheerily replied and ordered us drinks.
"So is there anything else you need?" he asked when she left. I shook my head. "Chris you've done more than enough." I said, placing my hands on the table.
"You sure? Anything you want or need, just name it." he said, placing his hands gently on mine. I pulled away as the girl came back.
"I'm sorry, but has anyone told you that you look like Chris Motionless?" she asked, her face red. Chris glanced over at me where I bit my lip.
"Actually, now that you mention it."
"Oh my god, no way!" she squeaked.
"Yep." I fought back a giggle. "Can I get a quick picture with you?" she asked, pulling out her phone.
"Sure!" She handed me the phone and I got a few pictures of them posing together. I studied the picture for a brief moment, they didn't look half bad together. She was pretty and petite. The kind of girl he would like.
"Thanks so much!"
"Oh crap, I need to take your orders." After Chris had ordered for us, I took a sip of my drink.
It was unsweet iced tea. "How did you know I liked unsweet tea?" "Kinda stalked your Instagram profile." he said mischievously. "Chris! That's so creepy...but in an adorable way." He nodded and smiled.
"So I had a question." he said, sipping his drink.
"Shoot."
"On Halloween, we are having a show here in Scranton and I was wondering if you would like to come. It's nothing big...we just do a few songs, watch a few other bands, and then dance until our eyes fall out." I giggled and nodded.
"I'd love to go."
"Great! You can meet the guys! But it is Halloween...what do you want to be?" I chuckled.
"I haven't dressed up since I was eight...isn't this scary enough?" I asked referring to my still sore body. He gave me a look.
"Okay, how about Alice from Alice in Wonderland?" His smile came back. "Yes! And I'll be the Mad Hatter!" He was like a little boy who had been told he could have the whole toy store.
"This is going to be so much fun....just leave me in charge of the costumes."
