Chapter 10

Katniss P.O.V.

On my way to my music class I stop abruptly. Prim is standing by the lockers, leaning against them, looking at a boy, talking and laughing with him. I know it's Eddie even though the boy is looking into his locker with his back towards me, because he has the casket on his arm.

His dark hair is a little messy and now I see why. Prim does something she must have done before. She reach her hand forward and ruffle his hair and he shakes softly, I think it's because he's laughing.

I feel a smile creep up on my lips. I quickly start walking towards the classroom. Prim didn't see me.

I lock up the classroom and start to prepare. Soon the classroom starts filling slowly.

When they take seats I'm looking down at a paper, and from the corner of my eye I see see how Prim takes a seat beside Eddie.

I can't stop the smile from spreading on my lips.

"Reading something funny there ms Everdeen?" A boy calls out to me.

"Oh you would want to know that, wouldn't you?" I say and he just sits down and his friends laughs at him.

They all start to talk pretty loudly as the classroom is filled and I get irritated. Why do they think they can walk in and start talking?

"Class settle down and stop talking", I say strictly. "You do not walk into my class and start talking with your buddies!"

They all fall silent. They have started to understand that I'm a strict teacher they can't fool. When they first saw me and saw how young I am, they tried to play with me, but they soon got that I'm not one of those teachers.

"Today we're going to continue with classical music and last time I gave you a homework, and that was to listen to three of Beethoven's works", I say. "And I'm going to play them for you here and now and you are going to tell me what song it is, but not out loud, you are going to write that down on a piece of paper".

Some of the students starts to turn uncomfortably in their chairs.

"Is this going to be graded?" One of them asks.

"Of course it's going to be graded, everything you do in a classroom is graded unless I tell you beforehand otherwise", I say and a few of them, no a lot of them starts looking pale. "If you did your homework this is not going to be hard".

I had put the papers to each of the students in the classroom. They all grab pens from their bags.

I walk up to the stereo and pick up my phone, which I plugged into the stereo. I start the first song, which is Für Elise. I let it play out since it's short.

I wait a few minutes to let the once who seem very unsure have time to think. Then I start the next song which is Beethoven's 5 secrets. I don't let it play out because it's pretty long. So I just stop it after a while and let them think. Then I start Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

"Okay write name and I'll walk around and take them in", I say.

A few of them are looking at me with daggers in their eyes. They're angry because I made a little test out of the homework. Serves them right if they didn't actually do the homework, I told them to listen. Maybe they'll take me more seriously about homework afterwards.

I put the papers in a folder and continue the lesson with Tchaikovsky. The students seem to recognize the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. But they didn't know who wrote the symphonys. Or yes, two students did. Eddie and a girl named Ames. She's the girl Prim said used to cut. She still look depressed but Prim is right, she does seem different, I've been here long enough to see the difference.
