Chapter 11: Wanting

Chapter 11

Peeta's P.O.V.

I don't think any girl has made my heart beat as fast as Katniss does. I've had girlfriends of course and yeah I've loved them and all, I think anyway, but Katniss makes me seriously question whether or not I actually did. Katniss makes me question everything.

I remember when I saw her the first time in the line to the toilet. Even back then she made my heart beat like crazy but I never saw her again after we got off the plain and we both totally forgot to exchange phone numbers and all of that. I never forgot her but I moved past that. I was only a teenager after all. Only a little little boy in my eyes right now.

When I met her again I couldn't believe my eyes. Was that really her? The beautiful beautiful girl I met as a teenager? The girl out of fairytales. The girl that I could never forget? It was. And we had the same workplace. Anything better than that? We actually have a class together. What could be better than that? Well besides making her mine?

That's still my goal. To make Katniss Everdeen mine.

I don't think she likes me. I have to charm her. But she wouldn't fall for that. She's such a tough girl who knows exactly what she wants with her life and she knows exactly what to do. That's also what I love about her. And she's so down to the earth.

Finnick thinks I'm dumb.

"How can she not like you? Haven't you seen every girl you pass look at you? Why would Katniss be any different?" Finnick asks and get a smug grin on his face. "Personally, if I were gay, I'd tap your cute and sexy ass without any hesitation".

"Okay, thanks for the info dude", I say and don't know if I should feel flattered or offended by this. "And to answer your question about Katniss, she would be different because she is different from any girl I've ever met before in my entire life".

"Well you can't wait forever", Finnick says.

"You're one to talk", I say. "You haven't told Annie anything yet and it's obvious she likes you".

"I'm waiting for the right time", Finnick says.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yes actually", he insists.

"And when's the right time?" I ask.

"Well... I haven't figured that out just yet", he says.

I hit his head with my palm.

We're sitting in the lunch room. I told Katniss that I had to tell her something important. That wasn't really true. I just had to talk to her. And I regret what I told her. What am I going to say now?

I almost choke on my food when I see her walk in with Annie.

"Great dude, that's not at all a give away", Finnick chuckles.

"Hey boys", Katniss says and slides down onto a chair beside me while Annie sits beside Finnick.

"Hey girls", Finnick says. "And how are you?"

"We're good", Katniss says, and turns to me. "What was so important?"

Damn!

Finnick looks at me.

"Yeah Peeta, what was so important?" He asks crossing his arms over his chest, leaning back in his chair, looking at me with interested eyes.

I know that he wonders how I'm going to talk this away. I told him about entering Katniss classroom.

"Oh that Finnick invited you both to his place for dinner before a party I want to invite you both to", I say.

Whatever Finnick is feeling right now he doesn't show in his face. I'll probably get an earful later today.

"Oh really? What party?" Annie asks.

"My brothers, my middle brother not the eldest", I say.

"Yeah although on second thought I think it's better if we just go out to eat", Finnick says. "I'm not much of a cook to be honest".

He chose not to hang me out now. But that doesn't mean he won't later on.

"When's the party?" Katniss asks.

"This weekend", I say. "It's my brother and his fiancé, they're like overly social and like to have parties".

"Okay well that sounds good", she says and Annie nods.

"We'll just meat by a restaurant, eat some food and then go to the party", I say.

Finnick is looking smug. What is he planning? It's hard to be Finnick Odair's best friend.
