Chapter 21

Katniss P.O.V.

"203", Peeta says. "Here we are".

He puts his hand on the handle but I stop him by putting my hand over his.

I need a moment to collect myself. If I'm gonna face Ames parents I have to be presentable and keep a straight face. I can't start crying, I mean I'm their daughters teacher.

"Are you okay?" Peeta asks, and puts a hand under my chin.

"Yeah I just... I'm still scared to think what could've happened if we were just a few minutes late", I say, shaking my head.

"But we got there in time", Peeta says. "That's the important thing".

I sigh and nod my head.

"I guess", I say. "Let's go in".

"It'll be okay", Peeta says and gives me a quick yet loving kiss on the lips.

He then puts his hand onto the handle again and this time push it down, letting the door slide open.

Inside I see a girl lie in the bed. Ames. She doesn't look as bad as when we came to save her. Her lips has started to heal now, the cuts has starter to get crusts, and the deep on her right eyebrow has gotten stitches. Her left eye is still very swollen and in purple and blue, but now she can have her eye open just slightly. She has bandage over her right wrist.

A red haired woman in an elegant suit is looking out of the window, and a man in an just as equally elegant suit is pacing slowly back and forth. When they hear us, however, the man stops pacing and the woman turns around. I now see that Ames is an exact replica of her mother, but with her father's light brown hair and brown eyes.

"Who are..." The woman begins but gets interrupted.

"Miss Everdeen, mr Mellark", Ames says in a hoarse voice, being more formal then when we helped her.

"Oh you're the teachers who helped Ames", the man says, approaching us.

"Yes", Peeta says, taking the mans hand.

"I'm Robert Hanover and this is my wife Melissa", mr Hanover says shaking Peeta's hand. He then reaches his hand towards me. "We're endlessly grateful for your help and can never thank you enough for saving our daughter".

"Although I still don't understand why it was needed", mrs Hanover says.

I leave Peeta to walk up to Ames. I sit down on the chair beside her bed.

"How are you feeling?" I ask, stroking her cheek lightly with two fingers.

"Better then three days ago", Ames answers. "But it still hurts everywhere".

"Lance always seemed like a good boy", mrs Hanover says.

I frown looking at Ames mother. She's a very beautiful and elegant woman. Although she has this obnoxious look over her, like anyone who has lower income of money then her family is beneath her and not worthy to talk to.

I turn back to Ames.

"Was this boy your... Your boyfriend?" I ask her.
