X didn't know how long he was in the woods, or how far he had gone at this point. He'd escaped under the knife, and he never thought he'd make it this far. As he lived side by side with other wild animals, he realised he was akin to them. They lived a far simpler life than his before, the thin silver chain on his neck a reminder of the life before. Logan was supposed to die with these dog tags on his chest, but X-24 had gone back after he'd died, and taken them. He didn't quite know why he'd gone back or why he took the tags, but it was a reminder of the cruel act he'd committed.

Killing dozens of innocent lives, he had no control over his body, they did, but it was still his claws that dug into those peoples bodies and tore them to shreds. X watched the life fade from their eyes, as fear radiated from every pore. They made him a monster from the day they created him. In the woods he sat amongst the predators, an animal in every sense of the word. No one threatened to take him on, if they did, the way he snarled, unsheathing his claws before maybe slashing at the ground, or a nearby tree. The metal slicing through the wood like it was nothing, if the enemy still wanted to fight. He'd put his claws away before using his bare hands, if the opponent went for a lethal blow then he would in retaliation. But it was different than before when Transigen controlled him like a puppet, he'd been on the drug his whole life. It had taken a while for X to ween off the substance, years of build up made him a walking zombie, barely able to take care of himself.

Nightmares plagued his nights, waking up in a cold sweat as he screamed himself conscious. X-24 thought of the innocent young boy that he had killed that dreadful night, he'd sunk his claws into him without flinching; without sparing a second thought. A part of him thought about how they controlled him, he moved as commanded, murdered without emotion. So high off the green serum, it was like his mind wasn't his own as his consciousness would float off and his body continued to ruthlessly slash through innocents. Now that his body and soul had reunited once again, he was plagued with fear, until he encountered the apex predator of the forest; the grizzly bear.

There was a sense of security in knowing they had each other's backs, the animals in this forest frequently being hunted, nowhere was truly safe. Upon hearing a loud growl echoing through the thicket of trees in the surrounding area, he was off. He sprinted through the woods before stumbling upon the hunter that had shot at the grizzly. He contracted the muscles of his knuckles, and like switchblades his claws quickly unsheathed. His nostrils flaring as he grabs at the man's face before sinking his claws into his side. The hunter spat out blood into his hand before grimacing as he wiped the blood on the man's head. X winced as he looked at the bloodied corpse, flashbacks of when he impaled his predecessor. The sounds of the many people's grunts as he gutted them, the life being taken out of people's eyes, something he could never forget. X had decided to take the clothes off the man's back, though he began dissociating, staring blankly at the corpse as he dressed himself in the new clothes, the clothing he adorned were ripped, and filthy. Though the new clothes would be dirtied in a few months, it would do for now.

X moved towards the grizzly, who had been slowly getting up ready to strike again before he stopped. The bear huffed out a breath before shaking his head as he slouched back onto the ground. As he realised that the bear was hurt, a deep laceration on the side of his stomach, seeping with blood. X roared out into the night in agony as he shook his head, unable to find the words as the reality dawned on him. The grizzly wouldn't be able to survive a wound as gorey and deep as he had, so X should spare him from the pain of dying slowly. He unsheathed his claws, falling down to his knees as his hand came up to the bear's shoulder, feeling the soft fur between his fingers. The animal looked back into his eyes before laying his head down on the ground, then he dug his claws into his companion, who roared as his suffering ended. Damp tears sprung to his eyes before he'd even started walking, his feet taking him for miles before he found a place to rest for the night.
