I'm so excited coming back (not)!
Being an SC is great! Because almost dying multiple times is just on my menu. And I just love it. But okay, let me be serious. I may be sarcastic - oh wait, you don't know who I am. I'm Ruby. Ruby Jameson.
Okay, as I was saying, I might be sarcastic, but I really mean it when I say that the only good things about being an SC is that our friend group is closer than other friends (we never betrayed each other), and that we all have special skills. Another thing is that we can learn things really easily.
Like take that we all know at least four languages.
I know English, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese (because somehow a lot of characters end up there), and Spanish.
I'm rolling my suitcase down from the suitcase carriage and taking it down the airport, I see the others. We all scheduled flights that will arrive at the same time, so this was planned. I stop at the terminals and we join together.
"Hey," Lilith says, motioning with her chin.
We walk by the next terminal, and Evelyn joins in, her suitcase making a clicking sound. "It's been too long," she says, sporting a grin.
We nod, and walk by the next. Aria comes out, her hair in a ponytail (that is slipping out because her hair is too short). I nod, and we smile at each other. I'm in a braid, and she gives me an impressed nod at the braiding.
"The whole flight I was busy. I swear I had a million people from the company bother me."
"You should let us help," says Evelyn. I agree with her, but work? Too much work. But I nod, because I still agree.
"I would, but I'm afraid that Ruby would die from the amount of work." We all chuckle at that, and then Claire comes out fast, rushing toward us with a boy tailing her. Oh gosh. Please tell me that's not our new MC.
"Guys! The text," she tries to fit in, huffing and puffing like she ran (which she did), "did you get it?"
We shake our head, because the whole flight we turned our phone off, binge reading and catching up on stories we haven't written for the whole summer. "Oh my gosh." She walks around us in circles, like trying to shoo off someone.
"This boy on the plane that sat behind me asked for my headphones! Damn it! And he returned it!" We all gasp and look at each other, like we are on a kind of show. We roll our eyes, and Claire puts on her headphones. The boy is still sorta tailing us. He looks lost, to be honest.
"It's not that big of a deal," Evelyn says, "I don't think that really means anything. If anything, he's an addition to our group."
We nod, and Zoe comes out in a crocheted beanie and sweater. She loves to crochet, and she probably made that herself, so we smile and Aria takes the earbuds out of her ears.
"Damn, Zoe, you sure were more busy than the rest of us."
"Ehh. Not really. Anyways, what's with the boy tailing us."
We look behind us, and see the boy. He isn't really following us. He has stopped at the McDonalds restaurant in the airport and is standing in line.
"Well, maybe if you look, he's not following us." Zoe turns around and sighs.
"Well that's good, I was getting worried. Now I can watch The Time Traveler's Wife in peace," Claire chimes in, still staring at her phone. Evelyn looks at her, "Umm, you know, I read the book. It's good just...."
"Yeah, yeah."
Then suddenly Claire's eyes widened and she quickly turned off her phone and stuffed it in her pocket. "I just got traumatized."
"Told you. You should have listened to me." Evelyn smirks, and Claire begrudgingly looks at her, "Yes, yes, got it." Satisfied, Evelyn looks to the side, and I follow her gaze to a dancing Aria. She was nodding, sliding and doing a bunch of moves that look choreographed.
We all stare at her until she looks up and takes out her earbuds. "What's going on?"
"Nothing," we chorus in unison.
Suddenly, Lilith gets all excited. "Guys, look." We look at where she's pointing and guess what? Chipotle. Well, okay, it makes sense. She loves Chipotle. "Guys, we have to get Chipotle. We'll be crazy if we don't. Besides, it looks new. We have never seen it before. New stuff is the best!" She starts hopping up and down, and before we can respond, she skips to the line and waves back to us. We sigh, and pick up our stuff, following her.
Our original plan was to get to Drewberry Academy, settle, unpack, and eat a quick lunch at the cafeteria, but apparently, change of plans!
Yay, Chipotle!
We put our stuff by the table and watch them as we tell the person what we want, and soon, we are digging into the bowls hungrily with our forks. Zoe puts it in her mouth and - she spits it right out. We stare at her, staring at the unspeakable crime that she just committed.
"It's terrible. So, so, so bad."
"Ahh, it can't be that bad," Lilith shoves a hefty portion in her mouth, and spits it right out. "Any food Chipotle makes is usually acceptable, but this ain't Chipotle. This is spicy, weird - I'm just too horrified." She looks like she's about to get sick, and we pat her on the back about her poor food.
"How can it be this bad?" Aria asks, looking around. Everyone seems fine, shoving food down their throats like hungry monkeys. I mean, according to at least the theory of evolution, we are technically monkeys.
Evelyn slams her hands on the table, gets up, and takes our food away. I'm about to say "wait!!" when I remember it's inedible.
She goes up and we hear angry talking.
"I'm a bit scared," Claire says, "she seems pretty angry."
"Excuse me? What did you just say? Can I see your manager, please. Thank you." Evelyn goes on, arguing her points like in debate class to the manager, "This food might cause my friends to get sick. In fact, one of my friends looks sick already."
"Excuse me, ma'am, this food is safe. Your friends just put too much hot sauce on it."
"My friends and I did not even order or put on any sauce."
I look at Claire and add on, "me too."
A few minutes later, Evelyn comes back satisfied with a refund plus a coupon for next time. Aria looks at her, blinks, and looks at Zoe.
"We never doubted you," Zoe half-grins.
