CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
The car was silent as Scott, Stiles and Charlotte begin driving to Dereks loft. They knew Jennifer was there, and they had to get there before something went wrong, or she did something to Derek.
a loud crack of lightning shoots across the sky, a storm raging on outside of Stiles car. Everyone terrified of what's happened to his dad, and no one was sure what to say to make it better.
Scott let Charlotte sit in the front seat, a part of him knowing that Stiles needed some sort of comfort, and he wasn't always the best at that.
The girl looks over at him, his expression a mix of panic and pure pain, she couldn't fathom what he was going through, so for now, she reached for the his hand the rest against the center console, her chest tightening with nervousness as she gave it a gentle squeeze.
He took it gratefully, his face visibly shocked for a moment before relaxing, giving her a quick silent glance of disbelief.
Charlie nodded firmly at him, as if to say it would be okay, even if she had her own doubts.
The boy mustered a thin smile before looking back at the road.
On the other hand, Scott was currently burning a look into the back of Stiles head, in utter disbelief of what he was seeing.
Not because there was anything particularly wrong with what was occurring, but purely because couldn't fathom how Stiles had managed this, making a mental note to grill Stiles at a more... appropriate time.
They pull up outside the loft, hopping out of the car and immediately running inside and up the stairs, the door to Dereks loft already thrown open.
The trio all share a look of dread, stepping in cautiously. Jennifer slowly turns as they enter, stood next to Derek with a challenging look on her face. "They told you it was me?" She turns back to Derek, pleading with him. "That I'm the one taking people?"
"We told him you're the one killing people." Scott snips, the anger in his face dripping into his voice.
"Oh, that's right." Jennifer chuffs, shaking her head. "Committing human sacrifices? What, cutting their throats? Yeah, I probably do it on my lunch hour-- that way, I can get back to teaching high school English the rest of the day." She laughs, looking between everyone like it's the most insane thing she's ever heard.
"Makes perfect sense."
Stiles lets out a quick breath before speaking. "Where's my dad?" His voice breaks a bit, a single tear rolling down his cheek as Charlie watches, the view physically paining her.
"How should I know?" She turns back to Derek, trying to convince him of her innocence. "Derek, tell me you don't believe this."
Derek stares at her, his face unreadable, before he looks over at the three teenagers across the room, his expression softening a bit at Stiles. "Do you know what happened to Stiles' father?" He asks, his gaze still thrown across the room.
"No." Jennifer shakes her head.
"Ask her why she almost killed Lydia." Scott spits again
