Once I woke up the next day I had no choice but to call Sarah and give her the rundown of the events from last night. She freaked out nearly blowing my phone's speaker out with how loudly she was screaming. I couldn't help but blush the entire time I spoke about him.
The thing is, I barely know him but I am completely infatuated with this man. He is tall, handsome, sweet, and wears a cowboy hat. (The cowboy hat part is important obviously.)
Everything about that night was magical, it didn't even feel real.
I wasn't sure if I should text or call him first or if I should wait for him to. Sarah told me to wait for him because "He's the man" whatever that's supposed to mean. I decided it was best I chill out and wait.
I waited days, and nothing. I guess he doesn't want to see me again...? Of course he doesn't, I should've known better. We had only just met and I scared him off.
It had been an entire week and Jake still hadn't texted me. I was dying inside but luckily I had plenty to do to keep my mind off of him.
Work was insane, I'm so close to getting a promotion so I'm working double time. Then I come home and clean until I want to pass out. Which leads back around to working some more. During today's cleaning session I heard my phone ring. Sarah had been calling me, and I'd been ignoring it, so I didn't check it this time.
Couple hours later it was time for a break, it was nearly 7pm and I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast. As I went to grab something to eat I checked my phone and to my surprise that call had been Jake!
"Oh my gosh." I said calling him back.
After three rings he answered, "Hey,"
"Hi, I saw you called."
"I did,"
"It only took a week."
"Well you didn't call or text me either so I was unsure how you felt."
"You see, I called last time that means youuuu call next time,"
"Does it now... well here is my formal apology, I'm sorry. I won't let it happen again."
I laughed, "Apology accepted, so why'd you call?"
"I was hoping, praying even, that you wouldn't have anything going on tonight."
"Wow, God works miracles doesn't he? Your prayer has been answered." I said dramatically.
"Well, isn't that just perfect, once again neither of us are busy." He said with a questioning tone.
"Crazy huh? I wonder what we will do about that."
"Personally, I'm pretty hungry and I'd hate to eat alone."
"Funny you say that I was just about to cook some dinner, but I could wait of course. Who knows I might just end up at an Italian restaurant with a very handsome man..."
As he laughed, "Handsome huh?"
"Well, he's alright. One might agree he's average."
"Hmm, I bet the ' average ' man will be at your location very shortly, 30 minutes per se?"
"Not falling for that one again, he'll be here in an hour." I quickly hung up before he could respond, doing the same thing he did to me last call.
I have nothing to wear. No clean clothes like at all. You would think with all the cleaning I've done I would have some clothes but no. I looked around in my closet and found an old dress from a casual event a year or two ago and threw it on with some sandals and a single loose braid.
At 7:30 I heard a knock at the door. He was on time! I was just finishing up putting some earrings on and getting my stuff together. I slowly walked to the door just to make him wait a little longer.
Then eventually I opened it. To see him in a nice pair of pants, a good shirt, and the damn cowboy hat. Oh and boots, can't forget those. He was grinning with his hands placed behind his back.
"You're on time," returning a smile.
"Get used to it, last time was completely shitty of me and it will not happen again."
Oh my gosh this man.
"Also get used to this," he moved his hand forward to reveal a new and somehow bigger bouquet of white roses like last time.
"They are gorgeous, I love them. Thank you." I grabbed them and stood there for a second just looking at him before speaking again, "You know, no man has ever got me flowers."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Wow, well I'm glad to be the first."
Hopefully the last...
I quickly set the flowers in a vase and went with him to his truck. Even though I was in it a week ago I still can't get over how large this thing is. Like truly it is massive.
After he let me in and got himself in he, once again, turned on the radio. But he offered to let me plug in my phone. I obviously accepted.
The first song I played was "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, the best song known to man.
"Holy shit, I love this song."
"No way," I said, "you're lying..."
"No, actually... I know it's kind of a girly song but it just gets me amped up."
"That's insane, but I completely agree. It is my favorite corny, fun, and just upbeat song."
After about 20 minutes we made it to the restaurant. The car ride was great, we apparently have all the same music taste.
Once we made it inside we took our seats and began scanning the menu in silence. We got drinks, ordered our food, and just talked. It was truly another amazing night. I enjoyed learning about his family, his interests, and even his job. I would have never guessed he have any interest in my job, but he did. He had great questions that actually made it seem as though he was really curious for my answer. Not just asking random things to start conversation.
Sadly our night reached an end once we finished our food and lingered until our glasses were empty.
He took my hand to help me out of my seat and once I was fully up he never let it go. We made it to the truck, he opened my door, let me in and took me home.
"So is it your turn to call?" Jake quickly spoke, his voice barely above a whisper.
"We are both even now, so it's fair game."
"A game huh? So does that mean I can win?"
"Only if you call first."
"You're on"
I laughed and began to open my door when he gabbed my free hand.
"Wait,"
I spun around, keeping our fingers intertwined.
"Yes?"
"I, really, would love to keep seeing you. And, only you. Is that feeling mutual?"
"Yes" I squeezed his hand and nodded. "Very mutual."
He nodded slowly with a stupid smirk on his face, "Good to know..."
He let go of my hand and walked to his truck. "Goodnight," he said before hopping in.
"Goodnight, handsome." I said with a wink and a laugh before walking inside.
