"And you're my soon-to-be wife." The vault where I had locked all my fears for the past few days had suddenly burst open, allowing my torturers to take over my body and making myself panic. It was too much to bear.
I pounce up and throw myself as far away from the man beneath me, jumping and landing into the soft snow before my legs begin to move on their own accord, scurrying faster than ever as I desperately try to seek distance from this creature. Luckily, I did not wear trainers, they would've stopped me from running away from this maniac.
I can hear the sound of pounding boots coming from behind and I know he's chasing me, the sound of his nearing footsteps setting my heart alight as I try to urge myself on. I know he's gaining on me and at this moment I feel completely helpless. The others probably don't even know some weirdo named Pedro Rodriguez is after me to what... marry me. That's what he said.
My soon to be wife.
On top of that, he looked ugly and as if he had escaped the old people's care home. That only helps me to go faster.
Fear.
It's on my side and I need it now, more than ever.
I continue running further until I'm completely stuck in the forest. The caked trees surround me but I don't stop. I know one thing that I should most certainly not do: find a hiding spot. It's the worst thing anyone can do. So I keep running.
The sound of distant running echoes from behind and that's my signal to keep going and not look back. I push through the long branches and find a clear footpath. I jog onto the path ahead and make my way down it. Dashing away from the maniac, I check my surroundings as I go, making sure I don't come across anyone else. I see a corner ahead and decide to go for it but if I knew it was going to be my biggest mistake, I would've never taken that turn. A long arm speeds out and grips me tightly before pulling me with such force and slaming me face first into the brick wall. I manage to keep my scream inside, making sure the Pedro man doesn't hear. The man behind me begins but I instantly shut him up.
Kicking my leg behind myself, the hard rubber from the bottom of my heavy leather boot makes contact with his butt, making him yelp in pain and jump back, rubbing his sore backside and forgetting about me.
Using this as a chance for my escape, I rush past the groaning cow and make my way to the nearby gate. I know there's a shortcut there that can lead me back to the chalet. I dare a small glance behind to make sure I'm not being followed as I run before bumping into a wall.
"Oof!" The air leaves my lungs as I slam into the hardness of it, my face slamming into a small dint amongst the bricks. Somehow I also feel myself sinking into the wall, entrapped inside the bricks, which I know is impossible.
How the hell...
Before another thought can even come to mind, the sound of quiet noises come from behind me.
"Umm... s-sir? What's going on?" Possibly the man who had caught me was speaking, his voice cracking and without even looking at him, I could tell he was quivering, agitation overtaking him.
I feel something heavy slam into my back, pushing me deeper into the wall and I manage to quickly look up. My jaw drops and my eyes widen, my heartbeat pounds in my ears and without noticing it, I'm already struggling against him.
Why did everything have to happen to me? And why did it always have to be something bad? It was always 'everything will get better' but not 'anything can happen at any time, so don't do anything stupid'. Because right now, I am literally starting to regret the whole "follow your heart" thing.
Why was I so stupid? Why did I run away in the first place, not knowing how bad the consequences could be? I could've died probably earlier, had I not run away; an early but eternal peace. One that I craved for.
