The sky was stretching out like a canvas painted in the deepest shades of midnight blue, scattered with stars twinkling like diamonds across its vastness.
The cool air was carrying he faint scent of jasmine from a nearby garden, and the stillness of the night made it feel as if the world was holding its breath in awe of the heavens above.
Or perhaps it was just Taehyung's world that had come to a halt, the moment Jungkook so softly asked the question.
The question so simple but so sensitive, on which his entire world seemed to stand.
Atmosphere was as clear as glass, revealing the infinite mysteries of the universe. But for Jungkook, Taehyung's eyes were the most mysterious, as he waited and waited uncertain of what Taehyung's answer would be.
Where taehyung was debating internally, struggling to gather the courage to confess, Jungkook, standing on the thin edge of his overprotectiveness, was ready to hold his breath the moment Taehyung will finally reveal the truth.
Never had Jungkook felt this nervous before, as much as in such a delicate moment, as he was desperate to hear who this special person was, the one who had Taehyung so smitten for him, the one to whom Taehyung had dedicated an entire diary full of love. At the thought of whom Taehyung was always found blushing so shyly, yet about all of these Jungkook felt a gnawing unease deep in his stomach.
A gentle breeze whispering through the trees, their leaves rustling softly, as if adding a faint lullaby to the serene silence, which was becoming more suspenseful with each passing second.
Above them, the stars were pulsing with life, some bold and bright, others faint and distant, offering perfect peace to anyone who would pause to gaze upwards.
But neither Taehyung nor Jungkook had time to spare a glance at the sky. Their eyes were just locked on each other.
Taehyung nervously dropped his gaze to Jungkook's chest, fiddling with the button of his shirt, just scared of rejection.
He glanced up at Jungkook, meeting his eyes briefly for what felt like the hundredth time, while Jungkook, ever so patient (not really), gave him all the time he needed to speak.
When Taehyung looked away again, unable to hold the eye contact as the butterflies in his stomach were fluttering wildly, Jungkook, sensing his hesitation, gently lifted Taehyung's chin.
His voice was more insistent now as he asked again.
"Tell me, who's the lucky one my baby loves so much?" Jungkook's eyes were desperate, and Taehyung could see the nervous energy in his features.
Yet it was the moment he couldn't stay silent anymore.
"I love you hyung..." Taehyung smiled, his voice soft but certain.
Jungkook, ears ready to hear an actual name perked down, he sighed and almost pouted at that, not caring if tae would laugh at him.
"Baby, I know that. I'm talking about the special one you wrote about. Don't try to outsmart me, I really don't get why you won't tell me. Believe me I'm ready to hear it from you." He rambled in his own world and pinched taehyung's cheek who couldn't resist a soft giggle, he pushed jungkook's hand away and looked in his eyes still giggling on how much his hyung was a dumbo.
"Hyungie, I actually told you." Taehyung repeated, his hands cradling Jungkook's face gently with a wide smile lighting up his features as he cooed at the older's confusion.
His thumb lightly brushed Jungkook's cheek, the softness of his touch making the moment feel more intimate, more tender.
Jungkook frowned, his thick brows knitting together as he tried to process Taehyung's words.
