CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
✩ ✩ ✩
Dreadfully awkward silence filled the distant air between Odelya and Finnick, for it had been the longest of times for them to have not spoken since the very day of which they first met. Her eyes darted around the train carriage as though to find an escape route for the torture of which she would have to endure throughout her victory tour.
Apologies were on the top of Finnick's tongue yet Odelya need not his sincere sorrows but his love in her time of isolation and addiction. Despite how terribly he had inadvertently hurt his precious mermaid, Finnick need refrain from telling her about his forced prostitution for it would merely damage her wellbeing further. Odelya was better off in ignorance, he would rather her think of him as a filthy whore than some fragile little boy who could not even defend himself against predators.
Not in these past months had Finnick been in her presence so Odelya need now restrain herself from her newfound nervous habit of scratching her arms so terribly that red marks would appear to cover her puncture wounds. Truly embarrassed would she be for Finnick to see her as some drug addict with a newfound array of anger issues and anxiety based weaknesses. However furious Odelya was in her current state at her former Sunshine, his opinion was still the one of which she held in the highest of regards.
And she would forever hate to disappoint him.
Sending the distress in the atmosphere, Tarquinia figured that the present moment was but the perfect time to discuss Odelya's victory tour.
"Of course, when we arrive in Twelve, Selene will pamper you as you deserve and turn you into our beloved Siren. However, we still are yet to discus strategy for the duration of our tour."
Mags began to sign, "I think that darling Odelya should play into the grieving friend aspect which has been her reality these past months. The Capitol should know what they have done to this poor girl."
"No," Finnick immediately disagreed with his grandmother, "No. Odelya cannot afford for the Capitol to view her as vulnerable. It will make this terrible situation inexplicably worse. Odelya needs to be silent and stoic, play up the Siren aspect which the Capitol loves. You need to play the game, Odelya, we can't afford for you to lose it now."
"What do you think?" Tarquinia targeted her question at the poor girl whose livelihood was being decided in front of her.
"I really don't care," Odelya mumbled, "No kind of strategy can bring them back."
Wrapping a comforting arm around the shaking victor, Mags tried her best to relax Odelya before she started something of which she was not in the correct state to finish.
"Dely," Finnick began, "I know you're struggling. But you have to listen to us when we say that settling on a strategy and sticking to it will be the only thing which can get us through this tour."
"This is meant to be a happy time for us all, my dear Odelya," Tarquinia clearly couldn't read the room, "Let's not spoil your victory with all this negativity. You won the Games, be proud of yourself for it."
"You're fucking dense aren't you," No amount of comfort from Mags could destress Odelya after Tarquinia's words. "You think I'm supposed to be all positive after I watched my friends be massacred. I should be proud of myself for killing children who never chose to be forced into the arena. Never chose to be slaves to Snow's game."
"I understand that you're upset and you have every right to be, but none of the anger can stop the Games. They are necessary to keep the District's in line."
Now everyone in that carriage was aware of where Tarquinia's true loyalties lay. Forever would they be with the President Snow. Always would she forget that Odelya, Finnick and Mags were District through and through. Ocean water filled their hearts and no amount of Capitol gold could replace that.
Odelya's anger intermingled with the morphling running through her bloodstream was a combination that was truly uncontrollable. As her hands clasped themselves around Tarquinia's pale throat, the true maliciousness in her eyes were not the slightest bit recognisable to Finnick Odair.
"You're a fucking coward," Odelya murmured with pure rage in her heart, "A worthless fucking coward."
"Dely let her go," Finnick implored, attempting to restrain her, but some kind of supernatural strength overcame her and he was unable to stop the violence.
However, in all the chaos, no one had noticed that three Peacekeepers had just entered the compartment and pulled her back before she could do any serious harm to her escort, they then dragged her forcefully in her private quarters and locked her the door.
"Let me out!" Odelya screamed, banging the door forcefully, "You fucking let me out."
"Odelya, dear, you need to calm down," Tarquinia never knew when to stop talking.
"Finnick! Finnick let me out!" He would always come to her rescue, even in spite of their argument.
"I'm so sorry Dely," Finnick murdered, tears streaming down his face at the cries let out by his imprisoned mermaid, "I'm so sorry."
"You fucking traitor, Finnick. Fuck you, I'll never forgive you. Never!"
Those words broke Finnick in ways that he could never mend. And Odelya would forever regret breaking his heart, but in that moment, she truly and inexplicably hated him.

I am so sorry for the lack of updates recently but I have been so overwhelmed with College and meeting new people that I've just needed a break. Hopefully I am back to updating weekly now but I am also working on a new story which I am very excited about and hope that you will be too. Don't worry though, I will be writing this alongside Amphitrite. Odelya isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
