Jin spent a restless night in his own bed, the events of the day replaying in his mind like an unwanted film reel. Mia's pale face as she lay unconscious in the kitchen haunted him. He couldn’t shake the guilt or the worry that weighed heavily on his chest. He wanted to be there for her, to protect her and ensure she felt safe and cared for, just as she had done for Jiwoon.

As dawn broke, Jin awoke to the sound of Jiwoon stirring in his sleep, his small body shifting in the sheets. He looked over at his son, the light streaming through the curtains casting a warm glow over his peaceful face. Jin couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Jiwoon was everything to him, and now, with Mia in the picture, things felt more complete.

After a quick shower and a cup of coffee, Jin woke Jiwoon, whose sleepy eyes blinked open. “Good morning, buddy,” he said cheerfully, trying to infuse some positivity into the morning despite the weight still hanging in his heart.

“Is Mia coming home today?” Jiwoon asked, rubbing his eyes as he sat up in bed.

Jin hesitated, unsure of how to answer. “I hope so, but she might need to stay at the hospital a little longer. She wasn’t feeling well, remember?”

Jiwoon frowned, his brows furrowing in concern. “But I want her to come home! She needs to play with us and read me stories.”

Jin smiled at his son’s innocence and determination. “I know, but let’s make her a get-well card while we wait. I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.”

Jiwoon’s face brightened at the idea. “Yeah! I’ll draw her a picture!”

After a quick breakfast, they gathered supplies from around the house—colored pencils, markers, and a stack of construction paper. Jiwoon dove into his art project, completely focused as he drew a picture of himself, Mia, and a big sun shining down on them.

“Look, Daddy! This is us playing in the park!” Jiwoon exclaimed, holding up the vibrant drawing with pride.

“It’s perfect, Jiwoon,” Jin said, genuinely impressed. “Mia will love it.”

After finishing the card, they both got ready to head to the hospital. Jin made sure Jiwoon was dressed in his favorite dinosaur T-shirt, hoping it would lift Mia’s spirits when they saw her.

On the drive, Jin couldn’t help but glance in the rearview mirror at Jiwoon, who was chattering excitedly about all the things they would do when Mia got home. Jin smiled, his heart swelling with affection for his son. He could feel the love Jiwoon had for Mia, and he hoped that their bond would only grow stronger.

When they arrived at the hospital, Jin felt the familiar tension in his stomach. He took a deep breath and led Jiwoon inside, holding his hand as they walked toward Mia’s room. As they approached, Jin noticed a nurse coming out with a stack of papers. She smiled at them, recognizing them from their previous visit.

“Is Mia doing better?” Jin asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

“Yes, she is,” the nurse replied. “She’s resting now, but you can go in and see her for a bit.”

Jin nodded and pushed the door open gently. As they entered, the sight of Mia in the hospital bed brought an immediate rush of relief. She looked a bit better than yesterday—color was returning to her cheeks, and her eyes sparkled with warmth when she saw them.

“Mia!” Jiwoon exclaimed, rushing to her side. “I made you a card!”

Mia’s face lit up as she looked at the drawing. “Oh wow! This is beautiful, Jiwoon! Look at all the colors!”

Jin watched, a smile creeping onto his face as Jiwoon beamed with pride. “You’re going to come home soon, right?” Jiwoon asked, his voice filled with hope.
