---

Ambi ran from the school as soon as the bell rang. The week was almost over, it was Thursday!

She skipped down the road towards her hut before she stopped.

What was that amazing smell?

Her baba always said that she had a good sense of smell, so she trusted her nose. She followed the smell down the dirt road to the...

The Wolves' hut?

What?

King T'Challa and Princess Shuri had said to not bother them, but...

It smelled so good!

Ambi stood there in front of the hut for a long while. The door suddenly opened and the Shadow Wolf walked out, holding a cookie. She stopped and made eye contact with Ambi.

Ambi's eyes widened and she quickly hid in a bush. Ambi heard talking and then...

Nothing.

Suddenly, the bush rustled and the Shadow Wolf's face was shown. Ambi screamed.

"Shit!" the Shadow Wolf exclaimed before she shushed her. "Don't scream! Shuri will kill me if I make a kid scream!"

Ambi stopped screaming.

"What are you doing in a bush?"

Ambi looked up at her in confusion. "Um." She glanced at the cookie in her hand before looking down at the ground, blushing. "I smelled something good and followed it here."

The Shadow Wolf smiled. "You want one?"

Ambi looked up. "Really?"

The Shadow Wolf nodded. "We made too much. Come on." She held out her hand for Ambi to take. She looked at the outstretched hand. There were rumors that the Shadow Wolf had a metal arm, but Ambi couldn't see it. She hesitantly took the hand and the Shadow Wolf helped her out.

"What is your name?" the Shadow Wolf asked.

"Uh, Ambi."

"Ambi," she repeated. "That's pretty. I like it."

"Thank you!" Ambi smiled. She never got compliments on her name! It was a common name in the border tribe. The Shadow Wolf led her inside the hut.

The amazing smell outside was even more amazing inside.

"James," the Shadow Wolf said softly.

The White Wolf walked into view and smiled. "Hi, kiddo." Everyone knew the White Wolf only had one arm, and that was true.

"Hi," Ambi said shyly.

"Here," the White Wolf said quietly. He put the plate down on the table and handed her a cookie.

Ambi took a bit and couldn't help but smile. "This is really good!"

"It's my ma's secret recipe," the White Wolf nodded.

"They're sugar cookies," the Shadow Wolf added.

"C-can I bring some home to my friends and baba?" Ambi asked shyly.

"How 'bout this," the White Wolf whispered as he crouched down. "Next Thursday, bring some friends and we can share some more cookies."

Ambi's eyes widened. "Really?" The White Wolf nodded. "Thank you!"

The Shadow Wolf smiled. "Of course, Ambi."

Over the next week, Ambi told a few of her friends about the Wolves' cookies. After school got out the next Thursday, she led her group of friends down the road.

"Are you sure about this, Ambi?" D'Konto, Ambi's best friend asked. He looked really nervous. "You know about the rumors."

"What rumors, D'Konto?" Ambi asked. "List them off for me."

"The Shadow Wolf has a metal arm!" he hissed.

"So?"

"So, she could easily kill us with it!" Khanna, her other best friend, said.

"You guys are paranoid," Ambi retorted. "They didn't seem like the killing type."

"What if they poisoned the cookies!" D'Konto exclaimed.

Khanna's eyes widened. "They could have put a zomlingo herb in them to make you think they are harmless!"

Ambi stopped. "You guys are paranoid. Besides, it was the White Wolf's idea to bring some friends!"

"Exactly!" D'Konto and Khanna exclaimed.

"Oh, come on." Ambi grabbed their hands and dragged them down the road towards the Wolves' hut. They seemed to get more and more nervous the closer they got. Ambi had to roll her eyes.

Ambi smelled the cookies again and sighed. Heavenly was the only way to describe them. D'Konto tried to pull away when they stepped up to the door, but Ambi was stubborn. She let go of Khanna's hand—she knew she wasn't going to run, Khanna wasn't a scaredy cat like D'Konto was—and knocked.

The door opened to reveal the Shadow Wolf. "Ambi!" she said warmly. "Come in, come in." She ushered them inside. "Jamie!"

The White Wolf came into view with a larger plate than the week before. "Hey, kiddos," he smiled. "We have sugar cookies like last week and chocolate chip cookies."

"Thank you!" Ambi said with a smile.

Khanna and D'Konto couldn't stop staring.

"Do you really have a metal arm?" D'Konto blurted. Both Ambi and Khanna elbowed him. "Hey!"

The Shadow Wolf smirked and looked toward the White Wolf. "Pay up, Barnes," she said as she held a—metal—hand out.

The White Wolf scowled at her and handed her some money as he mumbled something in a different language than Xhosa or English.

"James," the Shadow Wolf hissed. From the tone of her voice, whatever the White Wolf said must have been bad.

"What!" the White Wolf exclaimed. The Shadow Wolf gave him a look and he sighed in defeat. "Yes, doll," he muttered.

"Good," the Shadow Wolf said sweetly bfore kissing his cheek. "I told you so," she whispered before turning toward D'Konto, Khanna, and Ambi. "Cookies?" The White Wolf's offended look went unnoticed by her, but not the kids. They giggled.

"Yes, please!" Ambi exclaimed.

The Shadow Wolf led them to the table where the large plate of cookies sat. They each got to choose two before they, along with the Wolves, went to go sit outside.

"These were really good, thank you," D'Konto said.

"Ndikuxelele njalo. (I told you so.)" Ambi said sassily in Xhosa.

D'Konto rolled his eyes. "Why did I become friends with you again?"

"I am too likable to not be friends with!"

"Can we bring more friends next Thursday?" D'Konto asked.

The Shadow Wolf and White Wolf glanced at each other before shrugging. "I don't see why not," he answered.

"Yay!"

Over the next few weeks, more and more children would come over to the Wolves' hut for amazing cookies on Thursday.

The parents of the children pretended to not know what was going on, but they knew exactly where their children were going after school every Thursday.

By word of mouth, Cookie Thursday made it all the way up to Okoye, the general of the Dora Milaje. She was very amused about it, so she told the Princess and the King.

If they helped the Wolves get supplies for cookies, no one had to know.
