Ominis POV

The welcoming feast was well underway. Sebastian sat next to me mocking Headmaster Black's earlier speech, earning a cheery laugh from MC seated across from us.

I smiled wide. Not at Sebastian's immaturity, but at the melody emanating across the table from us.

It was great to hear her again.

As much as I didn't want to admit it to myself, I had missed her. She was always a breath of fresh air, a charming aura that even I could sense. A stark comparison to Sebastian's draining one.

I always needed to be around her.

I was well aware of some budding feelings that had been arising in me for about a year, but I had chosen to ignore them. I didn't want to jeopardize our friendship. I couldn't risk ruining whatever it was I had with her now. But I still needed her presence. I practically craved it.

I had hoped that Sebastian could sense my earlier attempt at spending time with her. Instead, he had unintentionally robbed me of it, whisking her luggage away before I could reach for it.

I'm grateful to have such a considerate friend, but Merlin, he was an idiot.

Suddenly, I felt a soft hand rest on top of mine. MC let out an exhale, "I'm so glad to be back home with you guys. I missed you both so much this summer."

My muscles instantly relaxed at her touch. I couldn't help but rotate my hand to hold onto hers. "I mis-"

"We missed you too, MC." Sebastian began at the same time as me. "It's great to have the trio together again. We need to close out our final year with a bang!"

MC and I groaned at the same time. She noticed it and gave my hand a squeeze.

"Sebastian, can you spare us just one year from your shenanigans and let us enjoy our last year in peace?" I could tell she was smiling while she spoke.

"Not a chance!" Sebastian spoke with a mouth full of food. "If there was a time to get into trouble, it's now! Don't you guys want to have a memorable Hogwarts sendoff?"

"No," MC and I said in unison. His persuasion finally held no weight.

Sebastian sighed in defeat before pausing. "Why are you still holding her hand, Om?"

A jolt ran through my body as I quickly released my grasp from her, clearing my throat. I could feel my face heating up.

MC quickly spoke. "Well! Shall we make our way back to the common room? The feast is about over. I want to get some rest before our last first day."

Sebastian and I agreed and we all made our way back.

"Goodnight, boys. I'll see you both in Potions in the morning," she said.

My ears pricked up. "You're... you're not coming to breakfast?"

"Nah. I much prefer sleep. Besides, I'd rather have an empty stomach while sitting next to whatever Weasley ends up brewing." She paused and I heard a clinking sound. I held up my wand to get a reading. She was holding up some sort of flask.

"I can tell I'll be needing this at some point this year. If his concoctions aren't going to reek, they are certainly going to explode. Thanks again, Ominis."

The Burn-Healing Paste I brewed for her, she had held onto it. Sebastian seemed to have the same train of thought as me because he asked the question that had centered in my mind.

"What are you carrying it now for? It's not like you were going to need it at the feast."

She stuttered. "I, uhm, I-I like to stay prepared!"

"Against roasted chicken and potatoes?" Sebastian chuckled.

"Shut it, Sallow. Ever since 5th year, I never like to be without a brew of some kind. A-anyway, I'm off to bed." I heard her turn on her heels.

"Good night, MC. Sleep comfortably," I called back to her.

My wand picked up Sebastian's gaze on me. "Sleep comfortably? The hell was that, Ominis?"

"I... shut it, Sallow," I repeated MC and also made my way up to the dorm.

The 7th-year dorms shared a staircase and a middle landing in the common room. With every step I took up to that shared landing, my face turned warmer and warmer the closer I got to the girls' door.

The closer I got to her and where she slept.

I shivered at the image of her sleeping soundly in her pajamas. I couldn't help but wonder if it was a pants and long-sleeve set. Or perhaps even a little nightgown. I wonder if it was satin...

I forced myself into the boys' dorm and prepared for bed, trying my best to ignore the tightness in my trousers.
