MC POV

I had spent nearly every day after classes this week in either Professor Sharp's classroom or the Library. After I had realized how desperately I wanted him to see me when we made love, I plotted a course for a new mission in life: I was determined to brew a permanent cure for Ominis' blindness.

It wasn't even just for our lovemaking sessions, but for everything. I wanted him to see colors, to not struggle to dress himself, to see what I looked like walking down the aisle to him, god willing.

I was in the potions classroom vigorously reading the ingredients book I had checked out from the library at the beginning of the week. I had easily attempted 100 different potions this week, but none worked or were permanent. I ended up using Ominis' Burn-Healing Paste after one concoction failed miserably on Tuesday.

Professor Sharp was kind in assisting me all week. He had helped me test the different concoctions on a blind-worm. We both figured that it was best to test with a fellow born-blind creature. We utilized an unscented sugar cube to see if the worm could find it on its own. If it did, we knew it worked.

"I just don't understand, Professor Sharp. Surely, there's a combination out there to cure born blindness."

He rested a hand on my shoulder. "Miss L/n, it's Friday after classes. You've been here every day this week. Don't you want to consider taking a break? Perhaps take a stroll into Hogsmeade?"

I raised my eyebrows. "That's it! Maybe Mr. Pippin will know what we're missing!"

The professor chuckled. "That's not what I meant. I doubt he will be able to fill in the cracks for us. Unfortunately, there isn't a potion cure for everything, Miss L/n. Perhaps that's the case here."

I didn't want to believe it. "But-but we were so close with this pickled murtlap tentacle combination. I think the pickled tentacle is what tackles the blindness itself and the salamander blood and octopus powder are the keys to targeting born-blind individuals. It worked on the worm, but it just wasn't permanent. It stopped being able to find the sugar cube after a few hours."

I sighed and crumbled another written combination into a ball.

"I wonder if there's a way to implement a permanent relative ingredient without compromising the integrity of the others."

Professor Sharp stared at me for a moment. "I am both immensely proud and impressed with you, Miss L/n. I wouldn't have spent so much time helping another student if I didn't think they were capable of such a feat. While I understand that a temporary cure is not ideal, please be prepared to find that it may be the best option."

He handed me a mug of tea.

"However, if you keep experimenting at this rate, you just might find something unique. I have a faculty meeting to attend. Please lock up if you leave while I'm gone."

"Yes, sir."

I tapped my quill against my lip while Professor Sharp limped away and left me alone in the room. I replayed his words.

"Something unique... something unique..."

I shook my head. Everything in the wizarding world was unique to me. How am I supposed to find unique within unique? Nothing fazes people around here, the only thing that I've seen anyone surprised at is-

I gasped as if I had just won the lottery.

I quickly brewed another murtlap tentacle, salamander blood, and octopus powder potion on high heat. I took a deep breath and conjured my ancient magic, guiding the ice-blue swirl into the cauldron. It had gone from a solid red to iridescent at the addition.
