anywhooo, this feels like a filler episode (it actually is) but life's getting a bit hard and this is the only way i can shake it off lol

hope y'all enjoy it <3

Clove was convinced that love just wasn't for her. Every time she thought she might finally live her own "Lover era," as Katniss would call it, everything fell apart in just a few days. She was angry and wanted to rip Cato's eyes out with her bare hands. After everything that had happened between them, he decided to act like nothing had ever happened. She had confronted him about it, and he had told her he needed time to think things through. But it had already been a month, and they still hadn't brought up the subject again.

She couldn't understand why he just didn't tell her outright that he didn't want anything with her, and then they could both go back to their normal lives. If he acted like there was no problem, she would do the same, but it bothered her immensely that he said absolutely nothing about the whole situation.

Maybe it was time to let him go because, in the end, they were just friends and nothing else. It was just a kiss; it was just something casual, done out of drunkenness and pure stupidity. Clove was the one who had gotten her hopes up for no reason, like a naive little girl. But she couldn't help how her heart raced every time she saw him walk into class, and the delicate butterflies in her stomach turned into acid when she noticed him ignoring her.

"I thought I'd seen everything, but the universe has a way of reminding me there are still mysteries out there," Haymitch said as he entered the room. Clove had arrived half an hour early because she didn't want to be at home, where problems seemed to rain down as well. "I should probably make a wish."

She smiled as she wiped her face with the sleeves of her coat, only now realizing she had been crying. Haymitch pulled out a chair next to his desk and motioned for her to come closer.

"Spill the tea, Kentwell," he ordered, and for the first time in days, she managed to laugh. It was no wonder he was her favorite professor. "Did someone die? Are we invited to a funeral? They always offer good drinks at those places, though it's a shame the deceased can't enjoy their own party."

"It's nothing."

"I'm a teacher and an unlicensed therapist; there's nothing I can't solve, except for my own problems, of course."

"It's something weird," Clove replied quickly. "Just nonsense."

He looked at her curiously and leaned back in his chair. She hadn't been able to talk to anyone about that situation because it was humiliating. Her friends didn't know anything about it, though Clove knew that if she told them, they would probably kill Cato with their own hands, especially Glimmer and Katniss. She also found no refuge at home, where her father was never around, and her mother turned every word that came out of her mouth into a reason to argue. That woman was always angry, and Clove couldn't talk to her about anything. That left her with only one person who could offer advice: Haymitch.

She decided to tell him the situation without mentioning names, although she was sure he'd be able to piece together the loose threads of her story. He listened attentively, but she had the impression that he would mock her at any moment.

"Couldn't you fall for a bigger idiot?" he asked with a laugh. "Honestly, it sounds like your mystery boy is running away from his own feelings, and you shouldn't blame yourself for that. It's normal; we all do it when we have no idea what we really want or when we're afraid of hurting others."
