ALVARA

The big game was in two hours, and I decided to binge a bunch of videos on YouTube, hoping to at least understand the rules. I needed to get ready, so I slipped on a pair of fleece-lined leggings, UGGs, and a UND hoodie. Kiara had told me to dress warm and comfy, so I figured this would work. I left my hair down; I had curled it that morning, and now it flowed in loose waves.

"Are you ready, Alvara?" Kiara hollered from downstairs. It was six twenty, and with parking and everything, we needed the extra time. "Yeah!" I called back, spritzing on some vanilla perfume before heading down.

Delaney and Kiara waited for me by the door. "Where are Serena and Faye?" I asked, glancing around.

"They wanted to go to some party," Kiara said, rolling her eyes.

"Can you drive?" Del asked me.

"Sure!" I replied, opening the door and locking it behind us.

I slid into the driver's seat, starting the car and listening to it roar to life. The arena was about fifteen minutes away—not too terrible. Kiara began explaining the rivalry between the two hockey teams and some of the rules as we made our way.

When we arrived, Kiara led us to the front of the line. "We can't cut!" I whispered, glancing nervously at the crowd.

"We can do whatever we want; they know who I am. I promise it's fine!" she assured me, and sure enough, the security guard waved us through.

She took Del and me to a row of seats marked 'Friends and Family Only.' With fifteen minutes until the game started, I looked over at Kiara, who was on the phone with someone. She stepped away to hear better, leaving Del and me alone.

"God, I wish I had half the confidence Kiara has," Del sighed. I couldn't help but laugh. She was right; Kiara acted like she owned the place.

Kiara returned with a smile. "That was my brother. He wanted to make sure I had someone to sit with." She rolled her eyes. "He knows I won't come if I don't have company!"

"You guys have such a good relationship," Delaney remarked. "My brother used to fart on my pillow, and yours wants to make sure you're here at his game with friends so you won't be bored." She sighed. I laughed at their banter, suddenly glad I didn't have a brother.

As the clock ticked closer to seven, the excitement in the arena grew. The announcer's voice echoed through the speakers, filling the air with anticipation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight's highly anticipated matchup! We have the Fighting Hawks taking on the Golden Gophers! Get ready for an electrifying battle on the ice!"

Cheers erupted from the crowd, and I could feel my heart racing in time with the energy around me.

"Introducing first, representing the Fighting Hawks! These fierce competitors are known for their speed and skill. Get on your feet for your home team!"

The arena shook with applause and cheers as players skated onto the ice, their jerseys gleaming under the bright lights.

"And now, let's welcome the Golden Gophers! Hailing from the great state of Minnesota, these challengers are here to prove they can take on the Hawks!"

More cheers followed, the crowd divided but equally enthusiastic, and I couldn't help but be swept up in the excitement.

"Let's hear it for both teams as they prepare to battle for victory tonight!" The announcer's voice boomed, and I turned to Del, my eyes wide with excitement.

As the puck dropped, the arena erupted into cheers. The sound of skates carving into the ice and the sharp crack of sticks filled the air, creating an electric atmosphere. I leaned forward in my seat, my heart racing as the players zipped back and forth across the rink.

Kade made a goal, the other team still hadn't. Kiara told our goalie was really good. The first period ended and we followed Kiara to go get snacks and her brother was waiting outside the locker room we walked over to say hi.

Kiara gave her brother a hug, and proceeded to comment on how he smelled. "Kade, these are my friends Delaney and Alvara!" He smiled, "The Alvara the one that saved your ass on the first day at the hospital?" He said smirking. "And to think I was finally starting to forget about that, yes that's the one." She sighed the head of one of the players poked out from around the corner "Kade come on—oh." He smiled sheepishly as his eyes zeroed in on Kiara. "Hi" he said breathless, "Hi, Sawyer! I saw your pass good job!" She complimented. He preened at her words and his face started to get even redder. He stuttered out a thanks before Kade shoved him back in the locker room leaving us.

"Let's get food! I'm starving!" Delaney said. "Me too!" I added Kiara led us to the concession stand, I got a Dr Pepper and a soft pretzel, Delaney and Kiara got the same but got Monster energy drinks instead. We made it back to our seats just in time, we heard the sound of a whistle and the thud of the puck as it dropped.

They fought for the puck and number forty two on the gophers had the puck as they raced down the ice, he took the shot which was effortlessly blocked by our goalie, Kiara was right he definitely knew what he was doing.

There was now fifteen minutes left of the period, the score was still 1-0. Then we unexpectedly scored two goals, wow their goalie was terrible.

By the end of the period we were standing and cheering. It was now the second intermission, so we had about fifteen minutes before the third and final period.

The fifteen minutes flew by and the third period has just started, we made one more goal making the score 4-0. The gophers then started to catch up as they scored a goal, and then another. Our goalie must have lost his focus, he dropped his stick and they made a cheap shot. I nudged Kiara, "Is he okay?" I asked. She muttered something as she stood up the coach called for a time out, I watched as our goalie fell to the ice seemingly unconscious.
