MILO (Unedited)

Why is it so fucking bright, Jesus.

I blinked a few times as I regained my vision. I felt weak like I couldn't move. My throat was dry, and I was in some weird ass pajamas.

"He's awake! Press the call button!" Someone spoke.

The last thing I remember is blacking out the goal. I dropped my stick, and I felt dizzy and nauseous. Fuck.

My vision finally cleared up, and Kade was leaning over my face, what happened to personal space?

"Did we win?" I croaked, my throat still dry.

"Yes." He laughed in disbelief.

"Great, now where the hell am I?" I asked

"Milo! Don't talk like that!" A familiar voice spoke, my mom.

" You're at the hospital; you passed out." Another voice spoke, my dad.

I felt my arms wrap around me, and I groaned in pain.
"Did I hurt you— I'm so sorry!" My mom started speaking, but I stopped listening, trying to process what my dad had just told me, damned diabetes.

A nurse walked in, and Kiara was beside her in scrubs.

"Kiara, get some water." The older nurse told her. "How are you feeling?" She asked, "Like
sh— bad." I said, catching myself. Kiara handed me a cup of water I took it, feeling the cool liquid running down my throat.

" Do you remember what happened?" She asked, "Not really." I answered

"You were playing and went into DKA; you are fine now, and levels are all in check. Your monitor died. Luckily, your teammates got you off the ice and got you insulin, the ambulance arrived shortly after and brought you here, it's Saturday morning. Once you regain strength, you'll be all set to leave. I don't want to see you in here again Lazare." She smiled and moved to inspect the monitors before leaving with Kiara.

"I'll be back," Kade said, leaving me with my parents.

"I'm sorry," I said, feeling guilty after seeing my mom.

"I was upset, but after talking with your dad, I realized he was right. You have been responsible your entire life and never had a problem it's understandable for you to have messed up once, and it's truly not your fault. I'm just glad you are alive." She said, her voice breaking.

"I'm glad too," I said as I sat up to hug her, my strength slowly returning.

She wiped her tears, "I'm going to go get you some food the hospital food is gross." She said, laughing it off.

They stood up to leave, and my dad mouthed "Good game" before leaving with my mom. As they left, Kade came back in.

"What actually happened?" I asked, "I am so glad you asked." He chuckled before explaining to me how his sister's cute friend saved my life, yelled at the coach and team, and kicked the security guard in the nuts, and how she also took off all my gear and was "eye fucking me at the sight of my abs." And how my mom hugged her. I shook my head, god. "Oh, and she works at the hospital too. She is graduating this year to be a bioneer or something, and she's peaked in the room three times today...I'm telling you, man, this is some Disney channel shit!" He said enthusiastically.

"That girl is something else." He said, reminiscing. "Also, do you know something I don't know about Sawyer and my sister?" He asked, his teasing demeanor gone. " No..." he narrowed his gaze. "tell me, or I'll pull the plug." This idiot. "I'm not on a ventilator pull any plug it's not going to do anything." I told him, his eyes narrowed. I sighed "I don't think it's anything serious, just talking." I said reluctantly. "Sawyer doesn't 'just talk' you and I both know it." He said, leaving the room; eh-he was going to find out anyway.

The door opened again; I expected to see my parents, but instead, a very pretty brunette walked in, she was five foot-something and had green eyes and tanned skin. She was dressed in blue scrubs, her hair in a messy bun. Her eyes widened, noticing I was awake. It was her.

"Hi, how are you?" She asked, a small smile on her face. "Fine." I said, "Okay, well, they are going to transfer you to a different room." She explained, her cheeks heating, "Okay." I said, suddenly feeling very... nervous. She walked towards the door, turning to smile at me one last time before leaving.

My parents came back, and I wiped the dorky grin off my face before they could notice.
"I got Chick-fil-A!" my mom said, digging through the bag. Once we had finished eating, a team of nurses came in, "Oh, thank god you are conscious! I had to call in a team, thinking we were going to have to push you to your new room." She said, relieved.

My mom walked over and gave me some clothes I walked— more like stumbled into the bathroom to change. It was grey sweats and a black fitted tee. "Your room was upgraded to the premium one, you seem to be doing well we shouldn't have to monitor you much longer," she explained, I followed her up. "We didn't need to upgrade the room," I said to my mom. "We didn't." She answered. I was confused but brushed it off.

The room was huge; it had two couches, a large flat screen, and a mini fridge. Kade came back and brought the other guys, equipped with a PS5 and snacks.

We all played video games for three hours. When I was discharged, I said goodbye to my mom and dad. Tomorrow was Sunday, so I could rest and be ready for the week. I fell asleep thinking of the pretty girl that had saved my life.
