ALVARA
"Hey! Isla, how are you?" I said into my phone, I was struggling with my project so I made a call. I am at the hospital but I have some downtime while waiting for this new software to update.
"Hello Alvara, I have no time for pleasantries or entertaining your morals. What do you want." She said, her voice was cold per usual. No one would believe me if I told them I was her only friend and not a business acquaintance.
"Well first happy birthday! I sent you a text yesterday that you never replied to... anyways I am working on my capstone project and I need some help, can I email you what I have so far?" I asked, awaiting her response.
"I didn't reply due to the fact your statement was not true, the day of my birth was not a happy one. In fact I rebuke the sperm donor that participated in human reproduction activities with my birth giver. Yes, you may email me your work. I will be in North Dakota, for business, next week should you require any further assistance." That's Isla for you, she is the only person I truly believe was born in the wrong generation.
"Thank you! We should hang out while you're in town, since you'll be here, maybe shopping and lunch? Or we could go for a ride?" I offered, as much as her intelligence can be overwhelming at times we still have fun together. She also has a difficult time turning me down.
"I would enjoy that, plus your bike is due for new tires and an oil change. I will rent the track for Sunday the twentieth. Does that seem appeasing?" She asked.
"That sounds perfect, I'll bring some friends! I would love to have you meet them!" I said crossing my fingers she'd agree.
"Although I do reciprocate the feeling of "love" regarding social interactions with strangers. I suppose I can endure it for your convenience." She said hesitantly.
"Okay!Love you, Bye!" I said, "Good bye." She said. She's one of those people where once you get past their tough exterior they are big softies.
She bought me my bike, hence wanting to ride together. We met my senior year of boarding school, she was fifteen and I was seventeen. Her academic advisor wanted her to go, she already had her bachelors in computer engineering and information systems. Yet there she was in high school, she was headed back to MIT to get her Phd in nuclear science and engineering. She is a certified genius, and very, very rich.
I then compiled and copied all my code and my project outline and emailed it to her, "iamsmarterthanalbert@gmail.com" see she did have a sense of humor. Not always a kind sense of humor but I thought she was funny nonetheless.
My mind continued to mull over this morning at the gym, I decided I needed to have some "girl talk" if you would with Kiara and talk about everything I was still trying to comprehend.
I finished my shift at the hospital and drove home, my phone rang. It was Isla.
"I fixed all of the bugs and added on, you should be able to complete the rest yourself. Also, once you finish developing it I would like to purchase it from you. We can talk more next week. That's all." She said and before she could hang up I cut in, "Thank you Isla! Let's definitely talk when you come to visit, goodbye!" I said I heard her sigh before reluctantly saying, "Goodbye." I promise she loves me, she just doesn't do the whole emotion thing.
I pulled into my driveway and parked my car, now to find Kiara. I went upstairs and knocked on her door, "Come in!" I heard her say from the other side of the door. I twisted the door handle letting myself in.
