The evening was cool, the night sky casting a soft glow over the quiet streets near GIA. Livia and Jonas walked side by side, the dim light of the flickering streetlamps creating an intimate, almost surreal atmosphere. The neighborhood was quiet, with the occasional rustling of leaves or a distant bark from a dog, but otherwise, it was just the two of them. The only other source of light, besides the streetlamps, was the bright full moon that hung low in the sky, casting their long shadows on the pavement.
Livia felt a knot of anxiety tightening in her stomach. She had invited Jonas to her favorite little diner, a cozy spot she had discovered by accident, tucked away in a remote corner from the rest of the bustling world. It was her sanctuary, a place she went to when she needed to think or escape from the pressures of life at GIA. It was also a place she had never shared with anyone, not even her closest friends. But tonight, she had decided to bring Jonas here, hoping it might help her reciprocate, even if only a little, all the sweet gestures he had been showing her lately.
As they walked along the nearly deserted street, Livia noticed how their steps were in sync, the rhythmic sound of their shoes against the pavement filling the otherwise silent night. Jonas, with his usual casual charm, was making light conversation, but Livia could tell there was something weighing on both of them—something unsaid, waiting for the right moment to emerge.
They approached a stretch of street where the lights seemed to flicker more frequently, casting long, eerie shadows along the sidewalk. The air felt thick with unspoken tension, and though Jonas seemed to be trying to make her laugh, Livia's mind kept drifting to the uncertainty she felt inside. She didn't know how to process her emotions—Jonas's gestures filled her with warmth, but at the same time, they tugged at her conscience, reminding her of how she wasn't sure if she could give back what he was offering.
Jonas reached out suddenly, breaking the rhythm of their steps, and gently took her hand. Livia's breath hitched for a second, her body going stiff with surprise. She hadn't expected this, not now. The feeling of his hand in hers was soft, warm, and it sent a strange mix of emotions through her. For a brief moment, she almost pulled away, but she quickly realized that wouldn't be fair—not to him, not to herself. She forced herself to relax, to play along, as they continued walking, his hand clasping hers.
After a few more minutes, they arrived at the diner. It was a quaint little place, the kind that looked like it had existed in its own timeless bubble for decades. The building was small, with a cozy interior visible through large windows. Soft, amber lighting spilled out into the street, casting a welcoming glow on the cracked pavement outside. The sign above the entrance was faded but still legible, reading The Nook in peeling letters.
Inside, the atmosphere was just as Livia remembered—intimate, quiet, and charming. Books were scattered everywhere, lining the walls, stacked on tables, and even placed in baskets near the counter. The furniture was mismatched, giving the place a quirky, homey feel. A small fireplace in the corner added warmth to the room, and the scent of fresh coffee and baked goods hung in the air.
Jonas looked around, clearly impressed. "I can't believe I never knew about this place," he said with a smile, his eyes scanning the room. "This is really something."
Livia smiled back, feeling a little more at ease. "Yeah, it's my secret spot. You're the first person I've brought here."
Jonas's eyes widened in pleasant surprise. "Not even your friends?"
Livia shook her head. "Not even them."
Jonas seemed genuinely touched by the revelation, and Livia could see the appreciation in his eyes. They found a small table near the corner, next to a window that overlooked the dimly lit street outside. The warm lighting inside the diner made everything feel more intimate, more personal.
