Astra and Vanessa were still lounging on the sofa, nestled in each other's arms, their bodies comfortably close as the warmth of their shared intimacy lingered. Astra's head rested on Vanessa's shoulder, just like when the night had begun, but now the air between them was thick with the afterglow of their connection. The room was bathed in a soft glow, the faint light from the television casting gentle shadows as some forgotten movie continued to play in the background.

They stayed like that for a long moment, catching their breath, both quietly soaking in the peace that had followed their emotional and physical encounter. The quiet felt fragile, like a bubble they didn't want to burst. Astra could hear the faint rhythm of Vanessa's breathing, slightly uneven, as if she were struggling to find a steady pattern.

Astra shifted slightly, turning her head to look at Vanessa. Concern creased her brow as she noticed Vanessa's eyes were closed, her chest rising and falling more heavily than before.

"Van? You okay?" Astra's voice was soft, careful not to shatter the calm between them, but there was a note of worry in her tone.

It took Vanessa a moment to respond. She opened her eyes slowly, blinking a few times as if she were pulling herself back from somewhere deep within. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, her voice low and tired. "Just a bit...tired."

Astra smiled, trying to lighten the mood, though she was still watching Vanessa closely. "Maybe you should take a nap then. Couldn't hurt to actually rest for once. Doctor's orders, right?" Astra teased, her fingers gently tracing along Vanessa's arm.

Vanessa tried to laugh, but the sound came out strained, and the slight movement caused her to wince. Astra noticed immediately, her smile fading as concern flooded her face. Vanessa's expression, usually tough and impenetrable, was cracked with the raw edges of pain. She was trying to hide it, but Astra could see it now, the tightness in her jaw, the tension in her body.

"Van, you're in pain." Astra's voice was soft but firm, and she gently disentangled herself from Vanessa's embrace, getting up from the sofa.

Vanessa didn't protest, just watched as Astra moved toward the small table where her pain medication was sitting untouched. She picked up the bottle, turning it in her hands for a moment before walking back to Vanessa, who was now sitting up a little straighter, watching her cautiously.

"You've waited long enough. I know you hate these," Astra said, sitting back down beside her, holding out the bottle of painkillers. "But you don't have to suffer through it. It's just going to help you."

Vanessa looked at the bottle in Astra's hand but didn't move to take it. Her eyes flickered with something unreadable, a hesitation that Astra didn't fully understand.

"I just... I don't like how they make me feel," Vanessa admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "They're strong. I can handle the pain." Her words were firm, but the slight tremor in her voice betrayed her discomfort.

Astra could see the stubbornness in Vanessa's gaze, that determined resistance that was so characteristically her. Astra sighed softly, feeling a pang of frustration mixed with sympathy. She wanted to push, to insist, but she also knew when to back off. There was something deeper here, something Vanessa wasn't ready to share yet.

"Okay," Astra said finally, her voice gentle as she set the bottle aside. "I won't push you." She gave a small smile, not wanting to pressure Vanessa any further. Instead, she reached out and took Vanessa's hand, intertwining their fingers.

Vanessa's grip tightened, and Astra felt a silent thank you in the way Vanessa's fingers curled around hers. Without another word, Vanessa opened her arms, inviting Astra back into her embrace.
