The morning light filtered softly through the thin curtains of Vanessa's dorm, casting a golden glow across the room. The small space was silent save for the occasional rustle of fabric as Astra shifted slightly on the couch. Vanessa was curled up against her, her head resting on Astra's shoulder, her curls spilling across Astra's arm like a cascade of honeyed waves. She had fallen asleep the night before mid-conversation, her exhaustion finally overtaking her.

Astra hadn't dared to move, even as the hours stretched on. She could feel the rhythmic rise and fall of Vanessa's chest against her side, her breath warm and steady, her face relaxed in a way Astra rarely saw. Vanessa's sleep was deep and untroubled, a stark contrast to the restless nights Astra knew she often endured. It was as though, for the first time in days, the weight Vanessa carried had momentarily lifted.

Astra gazed down at her girlfriend, a mix of affection and worry etched across her face. Vanessa looked so vulnerable, so unguarded. Astra's hand drifted up, her fingers gently brushing a stray curl from Vanessa's cheek. She lingered there, her touch light, not wanting to disturb her. The room was so quiet that the faint sound of Vanessa's heartbeat reached Astra's ears, steady and comforting.

She let her hand trail through Vanessa's curls, her fingers moving in slow, soothing motions. The texture of the soft spirals beneath her fingers felt grounding, a small comfort against the storm of emotions that still swirled within her. She's here. She's okay. Astra repeated the thought like a mantra, letting it tether her to the present.

When the first rays of sunlight crept higher through the window, Astra sighed softly. It was Saturday, meaning no classes, no rush to wake Vanessa. But Astra knew they both needed food, especially Vanessa, who hadn't eaten much in the last two days. Carefully, she shifted, sliding out from under Vanessa with deliberate slowness. Vanessa didn't stir, her body still and peaceful, her lips parted slightly in sleep. Astra couldn't help but smile at the sight.

But as soon as Astra's weight left the couch, Vanessa let out a soft, plaintive sound. It was barely a word, more a murmur, but it carried an unmistakable note of protest. Her hand reached out instinctively, her fingers brushing the empty space where Astra had been. It was the kind of movement that spoke to a primal, unthinking need for closeness, like a child searching for comfort in their sleep.

"Shh, I'm here," Astra whispered, hurrying back to Vanessa's side.

Before she could sit down fully, Vanessa's hand found her wrist, tugging her closer. Her eyes were still closed, her movements slow and dreamlike. Astra leaned in, her heart swelling as she pressed a gentle kiss to Vanessa's forehead. But before she could pull back, Vanessa's hand slipped around her neck, drawing her down further.

The next thing Astra knew, Vanessa's lips found hers, soft and warm. The kiss was tender at first, lazy and uncoordinated, as though Vanessa were still caught in the haze of sleep. But then it deepened, a sudden surge of passion that took Astra by surprise.

Vanessa's arms wrapped around Astra, pulling her back down onto the couch. Astra barely had time to react as Vanessa shifted, rolling them so they were pressed close together once more. The intensity of Vanessa's kiss grew, her fingers tangling in Astra's hair as she tilted her head to deepen it further. Astra responded instinctively, her own hands finding Vanessa's waist, holding her steady as their lips moved in perfect sync.

When they finally parted, both girls were breathless. Astra looked down at Vanessa, her cheeks flushed and her honey-brown eyes still half-lidded with sleep. A small, mischievous smile tugged at the corner of Vanessa's lips, and Astra couldn't help but laugh softly.

"Well, good morning to you too," Astra teased, her voice warm and a little husky.

Vanessa blinked up at her, her expression hazy as she slowly came to full consciousness. "Morning," she murmured, her voice rough from sleep. Her arms stayed draped around Astra, her grip loose but possessive. "Where were you going?"
