The gentle click of the door closing behind them echoed faintly in Astra's quiet apartment, a stark contrast to the chaos they'd left behind at Luke's house. The space was still, untouched, and filled with a comforting silence that seemed to wrap itself around Vanessa like a blanket. Astra guided her carefully to the bedroom, her hand never leaving Vanessa's as they made their way across the soft carpet.

The bed, with its neatly tucked sheets and pillows, looked impossibly inviting. Astra helped Vanessa sit down, gently easing her into a reclined position. She grabbed a nearby blanket and draped it over her girlfriend, tucking the edges snugly around her. Vanessa's honey-brown eyes followed Astra's every movement, glimmering with exhaustion but also something softer, something that made Astra's heart ache.

Once Vanessa was settled, Astra straightened up, brushing her golden hair back from her face. "I'm going to get you some water," she said softly, her voice tinged with a quiet determination. "You need to stay hydrated and clean your system after everything."

Vanessa's fingers tightened instinctively around Astra's hand, stopping her mid-step. "Don't," Vanessa whispered, her voice low but urgent. "Please, don't leave me right now."

Astra froze, her emerald eyes flicking down to meet Vanessa's. The look on Vanessa's face, a mix of vulnerability and longing, held her in place like a magnetic pull. "Van," Astra began gently, "I'm just going to the kitchen. It'll only take a second. You'll be okay."

But Vanessa wasn't letting go. She tugged on Astra's hand, pulling it closer to her chest, where Astra could feel the faint but steady rhythm of her heartbeat. "Stay," Vanessa murmured, her voice barely audible but full of raw emotion. Her gaze locked onto Astra's, imploring. "I need you here. Water can wait."

Astra's resolve wavered, the intensity in Vanessa's gaze breaking through her practical instincts. She sighed softly and allowed herself to be pulled closer, sinking down onto the edge of the bed. "Okay," she said, her voice tender as she leaned in, her free hand brushing a strand of hair away from Vanessa's face. "I'm not going anywhere."

Vanessa lifted her chin slightly, and Astra's lips met hers in a gentle kiss. It was soft, unhurried, and filled with a quiet reassurance that made Vanessa's chest tighten. Astra started to pull away, but Vanessa reached up, her hands threading through Astra's golden hair as she deepened the kiss, her movements slow but deliberate. She tugged gently, bringing Astra down onto the bed with her.

Caught off guard, Astra let out a surprised laugh as Vanessa shifted their positions, carefully maneuvering them until Astra was lying on her back, her head sinking into the pillows. Vanessa hovered over her, her honey-brown eyes glowing with an intensity that sent a shiver down Astra's spine.

"Van," Astra began, her voice soft but tinged with concern. "You're still high you're supposed to be resting—"

"I am resting," Vanessa interrupted, her lips curving into a faint, playful smile. She kissed Astra again, her movements languid and deliberate, as if savoring every second. "I feel fine now. I promise."

Astra's hands instinctively rested on Vanessa's hips, her fingers curling slightly against the fabric of her dress. "You felt fine even before, and then you fell... You need water, Van.." Astra protested weakly between kisses, her resolve melting with every soft brush of Vanessa's lips against hers.

"Water can wait," Vanessa murmured, her voice low and teasing as she trailed a line of kisses along Astra's jaw. "Right now, I just need you."

Astra's protests dissolved completely as she surrendered to the moment, her hands moving to cup Vanessa's face as she kissed her back with equal fervor. The weight of the night before, the fear, the anger, the guilt, it all seemed to fade into the background, replaced by the overwhelming sensation of closeness, of love, of the promise that they were in this together.
