You stretch lazily on the windowsill, your sleek black fur soaking up the warmth of the sun. Life as a cat isn't so bad, especially when you can enjoy moments like this.

You cast a glance to the side, and there, lounging across the room on a soft pillow, is him.

Yuji.

His pink-ginger fur is like the first light of dawn, warm and full of energy. He's rolling on his back now, paws batting at the air in a way that's embarrassingly adorable.

You, Megumi, try not to let your tail flick in amusement—he's so predictable. But you can't deny that the sight of him brings a purr coming from deep within your chest.

Yuji catches your gaze, his wide brown eyes lighting up instantly. He rolls over and pads across the room to you.

His whiskers twitching as he gives you that usual, carefree smile. "Megumi! You're awake!" he meows excitedly, tail waving behind him.

You sigh in that way only a cat can, cool and nonchalant, though your heart is secretly a mess of purrs and rapid beats. "I was enjoying the peace," you mutter, but Yuji's presence has a way of making everything more... bearable.

He's close now, brushing up against your side, his warm fur mingling with yours. You can't help but press back, just a little. It's instinct, you tell yourself. Nothing more.

Yuji starts purring immediately, the sound vibrating in the air. "You act all cold, but I know you like me," he teases, bumping his head against yours affectionately.

"Shut up," you mutter, though your tail gives you away, twitching happily as it curls around his. Yuji starts kneading the cushion beneath his paws, his eyes half-lidded with contentment.

"Let's take a nap together," he says, voice soft and drowsy. He flops onto his side next to you, his warmth seeping into your fur. You grumble but follow suit, curling up against him. There's no use in pretending anymore.

His presence always pulls you in like this, soft and reassuring. As much as you hate to admit it, you've grown fond of him. Maybe more than fond.

Yuji leans his head against yours, his breath warm against your ear. "I'm really happy you're here, Megumi," he whispers, voice softer than before. You don't respond, but your purring does.

Yuji doesn't need words anyway. He always seems to understand you, even when you're silent. His tail curls tighter around yours, and his body relaxes fully against your side.

The steady rhythm of his purring becomes a background hum, a comforting sound that lulls you into a rare moment of calm. You never feel this peaceful with anyone else, and it frustrates you how easily Yuji can disarm you.

He shifts slightly, pressing his forehead against yours now, and the closeness makes your ears flick. "You know," he murmurs, "I think we're like those humans in those stories, the ones who fall in love after being rivals."

He lets out a soft chuckle, clearly pleased with his own analogy, as if you ever really stood a chance of resisting him.

You open one eye, giving him a sideways glare, though it lacks any real bite. "We were never rivals," you point out. "You just kept following me around."

Yuji laughs, a bright sound that makes his whole body shake slightly. "And you let me," he says, and there's something tender in his tone. It makes your chest tighten. "You always let me."

Your eyes soften as you close them again, leaning a little more into his warmth. He's right, of course. From the very beginning, Yuji's persistence had chipped away at your defenses.

Slowly, but surely, you let him in, though you'd never admit it aloud. There's a contented silence that follows, the two of you nestled together, breathing in sync.

After a few moments, Yuji's voice comes again, softer this time, almost shy. "Megumi... do you think we'll stay like this forever?" He sounds vulnerable in a way that makes your heart ache, his usual playful tone replaced by something more serious.

You pause, your tail flicking lightly against his. "Yeah," you finally say, voice quieter than usual. "I think we will." And for the first time, the thought doesn't bother you at all.
