611 words -- i'm so obsessed with them bro
« You still find it strange sometimes—the bond you have with Yuji. It's unexplainable.. maybe that's the point. But standing here with him, the both of you leaning against the railing of a bridge overlooking the city. »
The night air cool against your skin, you can't deny that it feels natural. Almost like you've known him your entire life.
"Hey, Choso," Yuji's voice cuts through your thoughts. "Do you think we should get takoyaki later? I'm starving." Of course he's hungry. You glance at him, raising an eyebrow. "Didn't you just eat two burgers?" Yuji grins, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
"Yeah, but that was, like, two hours ago!" You sigh. Somehow, he's always this energetic, even after a day filled with fighting curses and near-death experiences. But it's one of the many things you admire about him.
He has this ability to bounce back—both mentally and physically. It makes you wonder how he does it. "Fine," you say with a shake of your head. "We'll get some takoyaki, but you're paying."
Yuji gasps dramatically. "What?! But I'm your little brother! Isn't it the older brother's job to treat the younger one?" You roll your eyes, but there's a small smile tugging at the corner of your lips. He's right, but you don't want to admit it out loud.
Instead, you push off the railing, turning towards the bustling food stalls in the distance. "Come on, let's go before you whine any more." "Sweet! You're the best, So-so!" Yuji practically bounces as he falls into step beside you, his excitement contagious.
You find yourself relaxing as you walk, the tension from the day slowly fading away. When you finally reach the food stand, the smell of fried octopus fills the air. Yuji's eyes light up as he eagerly orders. You can't help but chuckle at his enthusiasm, shaking your head fondly.
As the two of you sit on a nearby bench with your food, Yuji digs in immediately, stuffing his mouth with takoyaki. You watch him for a moment, the sight oddly comforting. It's these small, ordinary moments that make you grateful for your connection to him.
Despite the battles and curses, there are times like this—times where you can just be brothers.
"Hey, So-so," Yuji says between bites, "remember when we first met? You were so scary. I never would've guessed we were even related."You raise an eyebrow. "Really? I've kinda.. always had a feeling I had a lost relative out there somewhere.. But; I never would've guessed it would've been you."
He laughs, the sound loud and carefree, and you can't help but join in. The absurdity of it all—how you went from enemies to brothers in such a short span of time—never ceases to amaze you.
"Well, I'm glad we met," Yuji says with a grin, wiping his mouth on the back of his hand. "If we didn't I would've missed out having on the best big brother ever."
For a moment, you're not sure how to respond. You've never really been one for sentimental words, but something about the way he says it—so genuine, so full of warmth. It makes your chest tighten.
You look away, focusing on the lights of the city in the distance. "Yeah," you murmur, your voice softer than usual. "I'm glad too."
Yuji smiles at you, and for a brief second, everything feels right. No curses, no battles, just the two of you, sharing a meal and laughing like brothers should.
« And in this fleeting moment, you realize that maybe this bond was meant to be all along. »
