Chapter 10 - Nat

I saw Mel come in through the door in the mirror, but as I was on the brink of wolfing out, I quickly went into one of the cubicles and sat on the folded down seat. I looked at my hand and tried o breath evenly. I saw Mel's feet in front of the door.

"Nat. It's me. Are you okay?" she asked.

"Yes. I am." I said, quietly. What Jade said was horrible. She insulted me, and that just made me angry, which was very risky when it's me. It gave me power like a wolf, which was I could lift her up like that. When I saw Mel and Matt's hands near mine, I saw how grey my skin was getting. That meant my eyes were changing colours, so I couldn't stay there for long.

That's how I got to that moment. I tried not to think about the lesson, though, as it made me even more angry. I looked at my hands, and saw that my skin was getting back to it's normal colour.

"Look, don't pay any attention to Jade. She's just an idiot." Mel continued. It was sweet of her to try to cheer me up, and I felt like I owed her something now. More than one if I thought about them saving me the other day.

"I know, that's not why I'm here." I said when my skin was it's usual colour and I opened the door of the cubicle. She stepped to the side when she heard me unlock it.

I didn't let her see my eyes as I walked to the sinks. I quickly looked in the mirror and I saw that my eyes were normal too.

"Well, that's good then." she said as I turned and sat on the space between the two sinks.

"Look, just don't worry about it. I'm fine, I just lost my temper." I said as I put a hand through my fringe and scratched

the top of my head. She scanned my face as I dropped my gaze. She smiled sadly and walked over.

"Look. I know what it feels like. And so do the boys. We all lost our temper like this once. You can count on us, we're your friends. That's the one thing you can definitely be sure about. Sure, they're boys who like you, and I mean LIKE like you, but you can live with that. I'm sure." she said as she leaned against the sink on my left. I know they haven't lost their temper like me, but I didn't want to tell her that. She was trying to help, and I didn't want to crush her world.

I smiled at her and so did she.

"Thanks." I said honestly. No one was ever been so successful before.

"It's true. Trust me. They're worried. Especially Matt. He's right outside." she said with a nod towards the door. My heart skipped a beat, but I hoped it wasn't because of why I thought so... "We should go back to class. If Jade does anything ever again, we can handle it with you." she said. I nodded and hopped off. We got outside and Matt looked me over.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Yes, now." I replied with a small smile. He took it as a good sign and we made our way back to the room. They went first and I was close behind.

"Thank you, you two." the teacher, Mr J said. Jade turned around quickly and looked at me triumphantly. I walked by her chair on my way back and as she leaned back on it, I pushed it down. She grabbed on to the table just in time so she wouldn't fall back. I just smiled as I sat down in my place. "Jade, do not swing on your chair. How many times do I have to tell you?" Mr J sighed.

She opened her mouth in protest, but he didn't let her. She turned back to me, and I just smiled innocently.

That's one of the perks of being a shifter, you can lie so well. Even with your face. She narrowed her eyes at me and turned back. Well, it seems like I made an enemy...
